Some info...
A mixed bag this, generally a collection of A and B sides and very good it is too, proving that Madness were one of the few groups who put as much time and effort into B sides and Album tracks as the singles we all know and love. 'Madness', the track that gave them thier name and B side to thier first single 'The Prince', is every bit as good a toe tapper as you remember it being, 'Mistakes', the B side to 'One Step Beyond' is probably the weakest track here, although it is by means poor, it is just a little less 'polished' than the others and shows it's origins as one of the first original compositions the boys came up with. The remainder of the album is first rate, other B sides are 'A town with no name' (to 'Shut up'), 'In the city' (to 'Cardiac arrest' and originally written to advertise Hondas in Japan!), and 'Walking with MrWheeze' (to 'Our house', not an instrumental of 'Take it or leave it', that honour goes to 'The Business' which doesn't appear on this album). The other notable oddity is the superb 'Victoria Gardens', this was supposed to be the next single after 'Michael Caine' but was dropped in favour of 'One Better Day' (shame, VG is much better IMO), a great track that i'm positive would have been another top 10 hit for the guys and one of the best on thier 'Keep Moving' album.
