Customer Reviews
a blissful ambient journey of sonic manipulation madness
Simon Posford is one of the all time electronic artist greats. From his early releases such as LSD and Twisted his production has been a benchmark for other people in the field to strive towards. Further releases such as the Lone Deranger have cemented his position in the Psy Trance hall of fame, but it was this album, produced with Tip boss Raja Ram that completed the circle. Previous escapades in to the ambient with aliases such as Celtic Cross gave an insight into what he was capable of, but it was through sphongle that any questions of genius were put to rest. Employing live instrumentation such as the divine flute of Raja Ram and an infinite amount of imagination, this album is quite simply one of the most interesting, varied, beautiful, and vivid albums ever released. And the sequel "Tales of the Inexpressible" continues where this left off, swimming in a sea of sphongle, hoping that the horizon is still a long way off. A masterpiece. Cabbage!
This is great stuff
It's hard to believe this comes from the same guy who made Hallucinogen. This is beautifull electronic trance music with some twists in it that are truly original whilst Hallucinogen was full-out hardcore goa trance.
This is a masterpiece from the master of Trance.
Great in parts
Ah, Shpongle, shameless hedonists and tweakers of the universe.. this was their first effort and is inferior to their creative peak, the album "Tales of the inexpressable". In fact it is kind of odd, because the 2nd album sounds like an updated version of this one, but with a whole bunch of superior riffs and tricks.
If you want the real stellar track, start off with track 6 "Divine moments of truth" which has some quite wonderfully wierd vocals that eventually resolve into a chanted "LSD/DMT" that seems to make perfect surreal sense. As chance would have it, the first moments of the track have now become asample for a very expensive sound sample CD collection..
My advice, if you are new to Shpongle, is to head for album 2 first... but this is still strangely wonderful, if a bit replete with very dated sounding sci-fi samples.. the usual...
