Great cd but..........
Although this cd consists of various live performances it has been expertly mixed to give the impression that it is one single performance the whole way through. To be fair it does state in the small print that it is a compilation album and it is hard to complain bearing in mind the budget price of the cd.
I am a little disappointed in the fact that 14 of the tracks have been taken from a brilliant vinyl lp "The Dubliners Live" at the Fiesta Club in Sheffield which was released in 1974 and have been totally rearranged on the cd so that they are no longer in the same running order as on the original album. Also 2 tracks from the album have been omitted, namely "Blue Mountain Rag" and "Belfast Hornpipe/Tim Maloney". Much of the live atmosphere from the original album has been lost as a result.
On the plus side 6 other live tracks have been merged in and the end result is impressive although it could have been so much better if they had been added as bonus tracks and the original live recording left as it was.
I have enjoyed listening to The Dubliners ever since the days of Radio Caroline and consider their live recordings to be superior to their studio albums.
Brilliant
As a young fan of traditional Irish music, I adore this CD. The Dubliners sing each and every song with a real, strong Irish accent, performing them as they should be performed. This CD is guaranteed to put a smile on your face with classic traditional songs such as Whiskey in the Jar (one of the best versions I have heard).
An absolute must for any fan of Trad. Irish.
5/5 stars.
