better than i first thought4
I bought this Lp about 15 years ago for £3 and considered that to have been £3 wasted. After playing it again a while later, bits of it began to grow on me, particularly the catchy and daft jazz/punk/noise of "sex bomb". I dragged it out again the other day and can honestly say i listened to it 3 times back to back. Its not going to appeal to the young punkeroos and it probably appeals to me more now i'm older and don't feel the need to pogo at the sound of a distorted guitar. It is slow and dirgy with fuzzy production, but i don't find it particularly downbeat and "sex bomb" is close to perfection.

Perfect5
This is easily one of my top ten favourite albums. The record is based on heavy hypnotic and repetitive bass riffs, steady simple drum beats and superbly written, heart wrenching lyrics adorned with thrashy and quirky noise guitar.
It doesn't sound like a winning formula but this record really does transcend it roots and becomes something beautiful and unique.
The overall mood of the record is quite down but it's laced with wry humour and witty lyrics that make the record still enjoyable to listen to.
I can't imagine this record being any better. If you like punk / post-punk / grunge and you don't own this it's time to sort yourself out and buy it now.

P.S. If you can get your hands on the follow up 'Gone Fishin' that's nearly as good too.

life is cheap5
real slow heavy album (actually i'll revise that. you see flipper were fast, just not as fast as other similar bands at the time which is why some people assume its slow). with most songs topping out over 4 minutes its hard to tag it to other punk bands like black flag, instead favouring more in comparison with public image or the wipers (musically). lyrically its depressing, righteous and uplifting at the same time, often within the same song. dealing with topics of (mainly)how sh#t life can be, it ends with sex bomb, a riff repetitive, near funk inflicted song that almost crumbles after the six or seven minutes under the shouted vocals courtesy
of will shatter (r.i.p.) though personally i think this song is overated other notable songs such as "ever" and "the way of the world" deserve the same (or more) credit. Listen to this just for the experience. indispencable.
