A collection no-one should live without !
This HOT major double CD from 1999....it's a project I have had the pleasure to work heavily on and to say the least it is a sizzling issue for Australasia as only 'Greatest Hits' packages have been available recently. Featuring many previously unreleased tracks to CD all sounding amazing & containing songs from every one of her classic Parlophone/EMI Albums, it is a music lovers delight ! The set also re-affirms the Beatles & Bacharach connections which were apparent from day one in Cilla's vast career, by show casing all of their penned songs recorded in this era....

A top rate 'Cilla' compilation and a must for all fans!
This Cilla compilation has the distinction of including her major hits together with every Lennon & McCartney/Bacharach & David song that Cilla recorded in her career. It covers tracks from all of her major albums, many never before released on CD, from EMI. and makes the listener wishing that all of her albums were available on CD. Cilla has a unique vocal style and it is a pleasure to hear her on such a varied collection. Let's hope for more!

Cilla's Versatile Vocals !
For anyone who has never heard a Cilla Black track, this CD makes a great introduction to an artist whose musical contribution to sixties pop has been sadly under rated,due in part to Cilla's reinvention as a game show hostess.

This compilation features all the hits plus a few surprises which underline Cilla's vocal versatility. "This Empty Place" is one of the highlights displaying all that you would expect from a great Ballad singer. The plaintive 'Liverpool Lullaby" which in lesser hands would revert to the "corny" somehow works,with Cilla providing just a touch of pathos to make sure that it does.

"Somethings Gotten hold of my heart" is another example of Cilla's expertise. Forget the "campy", angst filled Marc Almond/Gene Pitney dirge. Cilla wisely underplays the drama,but finishes the song with an incredible intensity giving the song a more believable quality.

To conclude - Cilla Black is at her peak with this collection of classic recordings - Enjoy!
