Amazon.co.uk Review
Before her rise to fame alongside Vince Clark in Yazoo, Alison "Alf" Moyet had little reason to believe she'd make a living as a pop star. Prior to her sudden baptism as electropop diva, she'd whipped her voice into shape on the tiny blues circuit of Essex; but if Yazoo classics such as "Only You" and "Don't Go" (featured here) worked, it was precisely because of the cold, digital backdrop that Clark had created for Moyet's expressive warmth. In Yazoo this was fine, but a major label solo deal saw Moyet attempting to locate her niche in pop with limited success. By the mid-1990s, she'd even tried her hand at indie--but it's Yazoo and those early solo singles such as "All Cried Out" and "Love Resurrection" that at least, leave room for her to soar. Indeed, as early as Moyet's 1986 set Raindancing (featuring a blonde, airbrushed Moyet gazing uncomfortably into the mid-distance) the plot duly evaporated. Compare such slight material to her biggest solo hit--a faithful rendering of "That Ole Devil Called Love"--and there's the problem in a nutshell: a gifted vocal talent sold short by the quality of her songs. --Peter Paphides

An Utter Bargain
A great collection of songs brilliantly sung. Not being a devoted Moyet follower, looking at the tracklist It has the main Moyet songs.............................. and plenty of others that get you exclaining "Oh I remember this one, forgot it was her!" time and again.
Great voice, a CD worth more than you can buy it on here for.
Brilliant album!
I was aware of some of Alison Moyet's work, particularly in days as one half of 'Yazoo', but never really regarded myself as a fan.
My old man had this album on in his car a few weeks back and I couldn't believe how many of the songs I recognised, but never knew were by her - Great songs too!
I decided to purchase my own copy for the sake of a couple of quid and found it a very enjoyable listen.
Definitely worth 5 stars and I'm happy to run with the pack on this one...
Alf should be as perennial as Cliff Richards!
For the moment, I am content with just the one Alison Moyet CD. There was a time when an artiste such as this lady would impress and grab me, and I would have to get hold of her complete output. Now, I am not saying such a day won't come, never say never and all that, but for the moment, I'm so cock-a-hoop with this collection of tracks I want to savour and enjoy the moment. There is no doubt Alison's other albums are as startlingly great, but I just need the time to digest this superb bunch of tracks. Here, you have everything the Alison Moyet beginner needs, from her earliest chart singles to the latest, an accomplished CD by a more than accomplished vocalist. Yes, they were there in my memory bank, logged away for all time, then suddenly, whilst surfing the Amazon pages, wishing and hoping, I decided to go for one of her albums. And this is, as I said, everything the beginner needs. Not that any of us are beginners, we've heard every one of these glorious tracks before, but a time arrives in life where, if they didn't grab you before, one or two tunes spring to mind and you just gotta buy something! Go on, don't let them slip through your mind like early morning mist, get this CD and have them there for the asking.
