Customer Reviews
A refreshing must have!
Some really good obscure tracks on here - I only bought it after hearing the Marc Bolan track on Radio 2's Sound of the Sixties show - and found that this compilation is filled with excellent tracks with only a couple of fillers. Hearing something as mainstream as the Small Faces in the middle of it does catch you off guard, but don't let that put you off. If you listen to a lot of `popular' music of this era & genre, this album is a refreshing must have!
Founded in the U K copied in the U S
Basically psychedelic music was invented in this country by the Beatles more by accident than design. In fact you could make a case here for Joe Meek as well but having said that I prefer the American copies which developed from the garage bands.
Freakbeat is a good name though
Like Fire's "Father's Name is Dad" on here? Find "The Magic Shoemaker Live" which includes a stunning new LIVE version!
This album gives a good introduction to many popular bands, and one of the strongest songs is without doubt Fire's "Father's Name is Dad". THE MAGIC SHOEMAKER LIVE (available here on Amazon) includes a great new live version.
If it's compilations you're after then the new Apple artists CD "Treacle Toffee World" is another one to watch out for.
