Product Description

There are few perfect records in the world, but Al Green's I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU may be one of them. Backed by producer Willie Mitchell's phenomenal stable of musicians, including drummer Al Jackson and the three Hodges brothers, Green reached deep into his soul to pull out one of the finest recordings of his (and, arguably, anyone else's) career. The opening title track is classic Green, with staccato punctuation from the Memphis Horns and Jackson's relaxed, syncopateddrum pattern setting the stage for the singer's luxurious, silk-voiced expressions of devotion.
The drums and slinkyorgan riff that kick off "So Glad You're Mine" are irresistible, while the inventive chord progression and infectious call and response section help make "Love And Happiness" one of the singer's finest moments. Continuing his tradition of turning unlikely outside material into gorgeous R&B, Green works his soulful magic on Kris Kristofferson's ballad "For The Good Times" and Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman". The high point comes with "Simply Beautiful", an aptly titled tune thatfinds Green weaving his ethereal falsetto in and around a hypnotic groove with a grace that justifies his reputation asthe king of R&B crooners. In truth, I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU is almost too good to believe. Not incidentally, it set the standard for the next 20-plus years of R&B music.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Following up Let's Stay Together, this is one of Green's greatest long-players. Southern soul's most eccentric stylist never sang more sensuously than he did on "Simply Beautiful", or on the six-and-a-half-minute country-soul meditation that is Kris Kristofferson's "For The Good Times". Nor did the Hi house band sound more crisply funky than on mid-tempo beauties like the title track, "Love and Happiness" or "Look What You Done For Me". As rough-hewn as it is, the sound Green and his producer Willie Mitchell craft is still mighty hard to beat. --Barney Hoskyns

If in Doubt, listen to AL5
Four words say everything.....
Al Green IS soul.

Simply Beautiful!5
"I'm Still In Love With You" has everything going for it, it really caught Al Green at the very height of his powers and it continues to sound amazing today. Released in the year of my birth, I grew up listening to this album and have never tired of it.
Musically, it is excellently inventive and diverse - the horns and strings of the opening (title) track is followed by the bold, funky drum of the quirky and sweet second number "I'm Glad You're Mine". Later there is the magical acoustic bass tone accompanied by shimmering organ which underlines the mesmerising serenade "Simply Beautiful" .
"Love & Happiness" is probably the best known track on here, but that sublime moment when Al tells us "...it makes you wanna dance..." is true for a few numbers on this album. The smooth velvet rendering of Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman" for instance - one of two truly definitive cover versions - may also find you shuffling inexpertly across the living room.
In spite of all this though, "I'm Still In Love With You" is probably cited by most as primarily driven by wonderful lyrics and a truly one-off vocal talent. I want to sing out every word of these songs when I hear them or think about them, and whatever I actually sound like, in my mind I sound as good as Al!
Whether the song is upbeat or melancholy, this is music to feel good by. If you're new to Al Green, I would recommend this as the very best title to acquire.

a soulful masterpiece5
I'm fortunate to have grown up with music always being in the house and i can remember my father playing this album and i loved every note! The beats, stings, horns and vocals still sound wonderful, there is truly only a handful of albums that can compare to this. Give your cd collection some class! Highlights of this album are: "Look what you done for me", the drum beat on "So glad you're mine" and the vocals on "Still in love with you"
Fantastic!
