Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Luke Vibert, AKA Wagon Christ, doesn't strive to be a prophet of the electronic age ala DJ Spooky, nor does he aim for the pop crossover appeal of the Chemical Brothers. Rather, he quietly but determinedly pursues his own reconstructionistvision using the tools of modern DJ culture as his buildingblocks and fashioning a personal--but very accessible--sonic world. Vibert builds that world by drawing on ambient music, Phillip Glass-style minimalism, the occasional trip-hop beat, world music, and an airy, ethereal quality that's uniquely his. While much of TALLY HO! is eminently danceable, it's much more than just a party record. Vibert fashions shimmering electronic soundscapes remarkable for their vibrancy and warmth, and under the right circumstances, listeners may be uplifted by TALLY HO!'s consistently positive vibe.

Cult Classic5
After having read various different reviews of one of Luke Vibert's previous records (having brought Musipal first). I thought I would give it a go and what came out of my speakers through the next hour or so completely changed my perspective of electronic music. It is at the same time downtempo, funky, jazzy, drum and bassy and downright head bopping stuff. If I was to put ten items into a time capsule destined for the year 3000 this would have to be one of them. It is an outrageously cool album, so fun and yet so rich!!!!! My one query of this album is that it is very tricky to get hold of if you don't order off amazon so come on all of you space age groovers get hold off this once in a lifetime album. Nobody will ever produce an album quite like this in the world take my word for it.

Luke Vibert at his best5
A worthy addition to fans of trip hop, breakbeat and Ninja Tune, Tally Ho! is a fun, sample oreintated album but THANKFULLY not as kitsch-y or cheesy as I had worryingly expected! Though similar stylistically this album is a lot better than his latest "Musipal" which suffers somewhat from the irritating cheesiness i've just been describing. The tracks are thick and and warm with atmosphere and layers of beats and samples, remaining fresh and distinctly original throughout, standout tracks surely being Shimmering Haze, Rendleshack and Piano Playa Hata. Oh and a great summer album!

'Designer Musing? Qui Moi?'5
Tally Ho! is the first full-length offering from Luke Vibert's funky alter-ego, coming after his departure from MoWax records and signing with mainstream giant Virgin. It's quite possibly his most sophisticated and fully realised work to date- the king of the laid back lounge groove offering here a beautifully crafted series of seemingly perfect tracks. Lush string samples ('Fly Swat','Memory Towel'), wholesome bass lines ('Crazy Disco Party') and bizzare antique synth samples throughout produce a sound that is always intricate, always interesting, yet totally relaxing. The sheen and finesse is gauged just right, too. Suffering less from his overblown ironies on such earlier works as 'Big Soup', 'Tally-Ho!' is a truly georgous record that can be played over and over again whilst letting you pick out jsut the right amount of new things each time. Make sure you have a very stylish lounge and a comfortable sofa.....

[Recommended Wine: A dry Pinot Noir (or maybe a Cabernet if you like your dance muzak a little fruitier)]
