Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
After the massive success of the Fugees' The Score, the popularity of any Refugee Camp solo project was guaranteed. No one, however, was prepared for the massive response to Lauryn Hill's debut album. Apart from the chart-topping singles "Doo Wop (That Thing)" and "Everything Is Everything", the album includes collaborations with D'Angelo, Carlos Santana and soul diva Mary J Blige. Her unique blend of Motown vocals and hip hop proved remarkably addictive, and the tracks are sweetly interspersed with classroom conversations on love. From the autobiographical and emotional lyrics of her own tracks to the stunning reinterpretations of "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" and "Tell Him I Love Him" (a secret bonus track), Lauryn points to a new melodic direction in hip hop. An album reminiscent of the classic soul records of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill deserved every one of its Grammies. --Ed Potton

Re-visit,re-visit-urgent
I like many others recently dug this cd out of my collection. Most of you will think you are familiar with this work but let me assure you that you are not!!! The melodies and beats on this album are beyond ctiticism even for those of you that do not like hip-hop.A soulful set that will; in time, without question be regarded as a swansong to the twentieth century.Truly a classic which I think the fact no follow up album has been released testifies to the musical genious of Ms.Hill.How exactly do you follow up hip-hop/soul/r'n'b perfection? Lyrically and musically this album set a benchmark that has not really been matched within black music.
A true artist!
I listened to Miseducation again after years - I lost my original CD back in 1999 and hadn't replaced it till recently. I have been blown away again! Miss Hill has a talent that is rare. The blend of her voice, the music and the raw Hip Hop beat produced one of the best albums of all time in my books. Listening to this album again has made me realise what a lack of real talent there is today!
Soundtrack of my life
This is my favourite album ever. Lauryn is a lyrical genius. Every song is beautiful and the album flows excellently to give the story of a life in love, out again, then back in. It's hard to choose which songs are superior becaus they're all so good. No wonder it won 5 Grammys. The rapping, the reggae, the soul, the beats, the voice- perfection!
