Sounds better the second time around
I've listened to the original cd and the remastered and it definitely is cleaned up a lot more. While some people will take issue with the 'quality' of the voices, I think they're just fine. The original show was developed through workshopped scenes with professional dancers/performers. The non-"wow" voice quality of some of the cast actually makes the whole aural experience more 'real'.
The film totally ripped apart what is an awesome musical. 'Surprise' in the film is in no way a worthy replacement of the triple-montage number. We learn much more about the characters in the montage, rather than focusing on the black dancer.
'Music and the Mirror' will always be my faveourite, and I'm glad the Donna McKenchie does this beautiful song justice.
Overall a top quality album of an AMAZING musical.

Slightly dissapointed.
I bought this last week when I was in America, and, having seen the film, was shocked at the poor quality of the casts voices. With the exception of two songs, it was obvious to me that their main talent was not singing. The extra songs that were not in the film are terrible and I can see why they left them out of the film. I'm sure it would sit a lot better if you were watching the amazing dancing, but on it's own its just a very mediocre recording of what I thought was brilliant music, til now.
