Customer Reviews

Superb album packed with songs that could have been singles.5
As Aztec Camera fanatics continue to wonder about the meaning of the title of this album, another mystery is the fact that not one of its ten magnificent songs featured on the subsequent 'Best of' compilation.

The album suffered from a chronic dearth of promotion, as Aztec Camera's final commitment to their WEA contact, and thus the single offering 'Sun' was permitted little opportunity to thrive ; a great shame considering at least six more of the tracks could have feasibly captured the public's imagination.

'Rainy Season, with its oriental piano opening leading to an epic chorus, 'Crazy' and the raucous 'Phenomenal World'should all have been heard by a wider audience, and 'Imperfectly' belies its name in that it does actually appear to be perfect.

Full of his customary superb guitar-playing and intuitive sense of melody, never is the fact that Roddy Frame's achievements have not quite matched his virtuoso talents more clearly epitomised than on Frestonia.

Lazy Moments In The Sun5
I've got to admit that this is my least favourite Aztec camera album. But don't let that mislead you. I still think you should buy this album. Why? First off The Rainy Season is one of the best songs Roddy Frame has ever written. I'd call it his Stairway to Heaven - yes it's that good! It's starts so slowly then builds towards a blistering finale. Sun is a lovely pop moment kept simple and humble. The two other tracks which I adore are Debutante and Beautiful Girl. These slow ballads have a power, which somehow transcends their origins. What does that mean? Listen and understand. Phenomenal World is a rocker, which will have you tapping your feet and playing air guitar! This may not be Roddy's best album but the great moments far outweigh the sluggish ones. You can't be fantastic all the time can you?

last and best of aztec camera5
last of roddys efforts as Aztec camera and I believe his best. The songs are pure pop with catchy effortless tunes and Roddys guitar work sounds much more "rock" like in the traditional sense. A much underrated work and a perfect lead into his classic "solo" albums "The North star" "Surf" and "Western skies"
