Customer Reviews
Magic stuff!
I first fell in love with Yann Tiersen's soundtrack for the film Amelie, and was desperate to find more. This album contains one or two instantly recognizable tracks from Amelie, but the rest is a quirky, ecclectic mix, with stunning instrumentals and a few gorgeous vocals, notably 'Cascade Street'. Tiersen is a truely accomplished and original musician, his songs quickly become addictive as, like all good music, they will time and again raise your spirits, I have often found myself grinning like a lunatic whilst listening to this music on the tube or bus!
An Uncategorisable Soundscape from one of France's greatest.
Yann Tiersen's music is like something you haven't heard before. Rue de Cascade is something you might expect to here as a soundtrack to some fabulous French film only seen in grotty Art houses.
The instruments are all played by Tiersen, with great skill it has to said, and with the feeling of a true virtuoso. Along with that classicism, he has introduced many interesting sounds to accompany the rhythmn. You will notice the sound of an old-fashioned typewriter tapping out the beats with the instruments playing themes and variations in a wonderful arrangemnt and simplicity.
If you want something intensley listenable with a nod to the avant-garde, then this is for you.
Audio delight
Tiersen is well known for his film scores of Amelie and Goodbye Lenin, but it his previous works that do him credit. His playful scores, toy instruments and obscure vocals combine to make a rich journey of sound.
Do not stop at buying one of his albums. They all compliment each other wonderfully.
Get a glass of wine, dim the lights, stick this on and enjoy.
