Customer Reviews
At least 21 years ahead of its time
It's hard to believe Ptah The El Daoud was recorded in 1970. I don't know why, but I never listened to Alice Coltrane before. I heard the track "Turiya and Ramakrisna" by chance on Radio 3, late one night. That track knocked me out, and I bought the album. The other 3 tracks are just as strong. This album is the best thing I've bought in the last 5 years. Brilliant, wonderful, moving.
essential spiritiual 60's conscious music
any fans of black deep "conscious" music be it - ranging from gill scott-heron, the roots, public enemy, john coltrane, erykah badu, etc should just buy this lp : its an essential addition to the black pantheon of spiritual,fiery,beautiful/sometimes not-beautiful music. its jazz with two of the best tenor players of all time : pharoah sanders and joe henderson and has incredibly moving compostions. all john coltrane fans should have this lp by his beloved wife also who wrote the compostions, played piano + harp to stunning effect. recorded in 1970 and essential.
