That old nickleodeon sound.....4
For a brief period in 1976, Sailor were within grasping distance of the crown abdicated by Roxy Music and Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel - arty, creative, cool, lyrically sharp and with a tad of irresistable commercialism thrown in. Why, lead singer Georg Kajanus (great name!) even looked a bit like Bryan Ferry circa "For Your Pleasure". Unfortunately the impact of the sailor suit costumes, the end of the pier nickleodeon sound and the constant nautical imagery and narrative wore a bit thin. It could only really continue for a couple of years, but what a great few years they were. Most people know the hit singles "Glass Of Champagne" and "Girls Girls Girls", but there are absolute gems in "The Old Nickleodeon Sound", "Sailor", "Let's Go To Town", "Josephine Baker" and the paean against the evils of the motor car in "Traffic Jam". These are evocative, melodic and moving mini masterpieces and should rightfully be placed high in the seventies' canon.

I believe innovatory keyboardist Henry Marsh went on to make a living composing TV theme and background music. Whatever happened to the supposedly aristocratic Mr Kajanus though ?

Gets Better5
The more you listen to this CD the better is sounds. Great range of styles from this band. Only wish they would play more live gigs in the UK.

A wild mixture of Sailor-Songs5
On that Album you'll find a wild mixture of Sailor-Singles and Album-Tracks, cause it was released, when the record-company had no material about the band's history, so they didn't know, which singles Sailor had out. But in the meantime I told them, as we are running a website for them: www.sailor-marinero.com ~ The best sampler is: "SAILOR - DOWN BY THE DOCKS" which is available @ : www.zounds.de ~
This one here is great digital remastered!
