Initially, success came to piano-playing singer-songwriter Shepard in an unusual way--through her music for TV sensation ALLY MCBEAL. BY 7:30 sets out to show that there's more toShepard than sitcom soundtracks. Her big, throaty warble ofa voice is full of passion, capable of instantly communicating emotion to the listener. Most of BY 7:30's songs mingle Shepard's piano with a gently artful '90s folk-rock, with generous helpings of pristine acoustic guitar and exotic but low-key percussive and melodic touches. Producer Mitchell Froom keeps his experimental tendencies in check, creating a sonic setting that sounds tailor made for the Lilith Fair crowd.

Amazon.co.uk Review
Vonda Shepard was a veteran singer/songwriter with spotty success behind her when she caught a break as the musical voice of Ally McBeal. The audience that connected with that popular TV drama quickly took Shepard's music to heart, making a huge success of the 1998 soundtrack album. Now Shepard returns with her fifth disc. Co-produced by Mitchell Froom in a radio-ready style at odds with his experimentation with the likes of Suzanne Vega and Latin Playboys, By 7:30 will surely please those who are primed for its earnest cracked romanticism. Others--the type of listener, for instance, who's less than thrilled to note a guest appearance by Indigo Girl Emily Saliers--are likely to find its overwrought, clichéd sentiments irritating at best. --Rickey Wright

Lie back in the bath with candles and Vonda Shepard!
Vonda's By 7:30 is a fantastic album, soothing, relaxing, yet it can rock too. Because of it, I bought all her other albums (even got some we don't get in the UK imported!) and I can't stop listening now! Her music kinda makes you sway back and forward involuntarily, and though you might not know the words, the tunes get stuck in your head and won't go away. But you don't want then to!
Vonderful!
This is such an amazing album. You have to listen to it a couple of times but once you do, you can't stop. The musics great, and the voice is superb. I just end up wrecking it by singing along!
