DUST OFF THE MOTHBALLS!!!
Dust off the mohair suit, dig out the Raoul shoes, close your eyes and head back to such places as 'The Scene', Last Chance'. & the 2nd session at the 'Flamingo'. Every track on this disc is solid gold. If you like 60's club music, this is a must.

Mid 60's soul and R+B from the Flamingo Club
If you'd have ventured into darkest Soho circa 1965, you might have noticed a dingy basement club just off Shaftsbury avenue... The Flamingo. A step inside would reveal it's immaculately dressed clientelle dancing to the hippest soul and R+B imports fueled on equally exotic substances! This is the soundtrack to those crazy nights and compiles 24 of the obscure 45's that would've packed the dancefloor back then. The sound is hard gritty R+B and cool jazzy soul rather than the more often compiled northern sound. The album kicks off with the uptempo anthem of the Soul Sisters "I Can't Stand It" and keeps up the pace through groovy hammond instro. classics such as Phil Upchurch's "You Can't Sit Down" and Jimmy Mcgriffs seminal go-go organ floorshaker "I've Got A Woman." All tracks are top notch stuff but other stand outs include Garnet Mimm's original take on "A Little Bit Of Soap" and Benny Spellman's "Lipstick Traces." The album finishes with a haunting rendition of Discoteque USA which you can imagine being a "last track of the night" as the smart punters made their way out onto the cold Soho streets above. These track were as hard to get hold of on 45's back then as they are now. Grab a scotch + coke, put on your loafers and recreate The Flamingo Club in the comfort of your own living room now.
