Ozzy Osbourne's 1983 release, BARK AT THE MOON, revealed that keyboards were becoming an integral ingredient in his music. On his next release, THE ULTIMATE SIN, keyboards were used even more extensively, resulting in Ozzy's most commercially accessible work. Despite the fact that many longtime fans resented the album's pop-metal leanings, THE ULTIMATE SIN became Osbourne's fastest-selling album to that point. It was also the last Ozzy Osbourne album to feature guitarist Jake E. Lee.
The most renowned song on THE ULTIMATE SIN remains the popular video/single "Shot in the Dark". Other standouts included the anti-nuclear war tracks "Thank God for theBomb" and "Killer of Giants" (the latter was the album's working title for quite some time), as well as the title trackand "Lightning Strikes", which were both popular MTV videosas well. Although Ozzy enjoyed his greatest commercial success to that point with this record, he returned to his more familiar heavy metal tendencies of yore on his next studio release, 1989's NO REST FOR THE WICKED.

NOT THE BEST OZZY ALBUM
Ozzy Osbourne streamlines his approach to keep up with the emerging trend toward slick, radio-ready metal, but Ultimate Sin is largely unsuccessful, as the performances are flat and uninspired and the material lacks much variety. There are some good moments, including the single "Shot in the Dark," but overall, Ultimate Sin is unable to push past the level of mediocrity.
a classic, not to me missed
I first heard this album 16 years ago (yes...sixteen years!) and was a huge ozzy/sabbath fan for 10 years before this..the album is laced with classic Ozzy anthems like Never Know Why, Ultimate Sin and one of Ozzy's best loved tracks, Shot in the dark, how anyone could fault this track is beyond me, it shows Ozzy's range of vocal emotions better than any track he's ever recorded, its not cheezy (that thought is absurd)...the production could have been improved but thats the sound of the mid-eighties...the guitars are absolutely faultless from one of the greatest rock/metal guitarists of the 80's Jake E Lee...even today his riffs and solos are intense and very complex...
if youre an Ozzy fan and havent got this album....your not really as big a fan as you thought you were..an utterly unmissable diamond of an album....buy it you fool!!!
A kick-ass album from the best Metal vocalist around
I don't care what anybody else says-this album is fantastic! The first time I listened to it I had my doubts, but the tracks have a way of growing on you. The best tracks are 'Secret Loser', 'Killer of Giants' and the most excellent 'Shot in the Dark'. Other people have called this track cheesy, but you can't beat it in my opinion (except maybe Mr. Crowley). Buy this album for 'Shot in the Dark', but you'll end up loving the other tracks.
