CD Description
Armed with unstoppable pipes, some time-tested cover tunes, and a haircut which even his most ardent fans had to admit was pretty humorous, Michael Bolton has achieved a curious, but undeniable, worldwide conquest. His brand of blue-eyed soul has sold millions upon millions of albums, confusing many a smarmy music critic. With ALL THAT MATTERS, Bolton enjoys a kind of rebirth, creating a sound which is modern and distinctive without sacrificing one bit of the earnest, passionate charm with which he has weakened knees on a global scale. He's even gotten a haircut, which is yet another point inhis favour.
Co-writing 10 of the album's 13 tracks, Bolton has chosen his company well. In addition to long-time collaborator Diane Warren (with whom he co-wrote "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You?"), Bolton works with the legendaryLamont Dozier as well as R&B luminary Babyface. The fruit of their efforts is refreshingly contemporary and overwhelmingly upbeat--it even includes the inspirational feel-good anthem, "Go The Distance", which Bolton recorded for the animated Disney film "Hercules".
Customer Reviews
Bolton is All That Matters
Michael Bolton has proved song after song that he is the master of his own destiny. In 1995 we saw ther elease of a Greatest Hits collection, plus 5 new tracks that marked the beginning of a new era for Bolton. All That Matters is that new era. Strong Lyrics, Powerful vocal performances matched by up to date sounds.
The first single (Best Of Love), co-written with Babyface is a lush R'n'B ballad that sees Bolton's vocals as we've never heard them. There is a feel good nature to this album, from the uptempo tracks 'Show Her The Way' 'Let's Make A Long Story Longer' 'Safe Place From The Storm' to the powerful ballads 'Best Of Love' 'Heart Can Only Be So Strong' Can't Get Close Enough To You' 'When There Are No Words'. Although this album failed to get the commercial success it deserved, probably due to the lack of promotional activity, 'All That Matters' is one of Michael Bolton's finest pieces of work, and I'd have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone wishing to listen to 'The Voice'
