Amazon.co.uk Review
Eric Benét is a significant contender in the line of young soul men (Maxwell, D'Angelo, Kenny Lattimore) who combine thoughtful lyricism, an old school R&B feel, and smooth sensuality. One listen to Benét's second solo album, and there's no doubt about it: the Milwaukee native has all the elements to become a major star. The vocal and lyrical influence of Stevie Wonder is evident on "Lamentation", "Why You Follow Me", and the emotive ballad "Come As You Are", while Wyclef Jean's contribution, "Loving Your Best Friend", is one of the disc's highlights. Still, Benét is very much his own man on cuts like "When You Think of Me" (featuring 1970s jazz-funk pioneer Roy Ayers) and the heart-wrenching slow jam "Love the Hurt Away". --David Nathan
CD Description
Though he's possessed of a sensual vocal style employed in the service of romantic contemporary R&B, Eric Benet is far removed from the R. Kelly school of overemoting and crass carnality. There was obviously no expense spared in creating the complex textures that define A DAY IN THE LIFE, but the overall impression is one of an artist who doesn't have to overstate his case. Benet keeps things understated in his singing as well as in the album's production. The presence of guests like Roy Ayers and Me'Shell N'Degeocello reinforces thenotion that Benet isn't just another dime-a-dozen crooner, but rather a highly developed artist capable of making the very individual statement that is A DAY IN THE LIFE.

Drippin' soul
This man is a revelation. Whilst I enjoyed Eric's first offering (True to Myself) I only had to hear one track (Why You Follow Me) to know I had to have this album. I have played it to death. Why hasn't anyone likened this album to (all) Brian McKnight? These guys were on the same musical umbilical! You'll like it if you like Brian McKnight, Rahsaan (sp?) Patterson and Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite - buy it anyway, you might get converted!
A must have for soul and r&b fans!
I have had this album for a good while and I listen to it over and over again! If you like Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, D'angelo - and wants something slightly more upbeat but yet very soulful and good quality - this is a MUST BUY! You will play it for years to come.
It's pure poety with a wild energy thats spine tingling
This is one of the best albulms I have heard in Years. From track one you are captured by the lyrical content and sound production quality as you are taken on a alluring journey through a rollacoster of emotions. From up-beat tempo songs to slow sensual rhtymns to thought provoking lyrics each song is a hit in it's own right.
It's amazingly written, wonderfully produced and vividly enlightening.
I've never heard any of his stuff before that I know of but this is a definite must for the more muture R'N'B and soul fan.
