Amazon.co.uk Review
A product of post-Acid-House Manchester, Mr Scruff is a complete one-off; a cheeky innovator. His debut album is a bold statement, distinctive and confident. Keep It Unreal oscillates wildly between opposing styles--one moment Scruff's in deep, down-tempo dinner jazz territory, the next he's in Coldcut mode, chopping out superb big beat breaks with naughty hooklines to get you pogoing. At one extreme is the wacko humour of Spandex Man, bolshi Fatboy Slim breakbeat and a silly 1920s swing loop that'll make you grin. And then there's the even more ridiculous "Shanty Town", with samples of a Jacknory story about a whale. At the other end of the scale, is Scruff's accomplished acid jazz--like the serene, trip-hoppy "Midnight Feast" or the smoothie cocktail number "Honeydew", with it's loungey female vocals. This man is out there, the Salvador Dali of beats and breaks. --Sarah Champion

Customer Reviews
Funky, fishy and fun, something for everyone.
First exposed to this whilst 'chillin' on a small island in Oz. Couldn't stop laughing for about an hour to the fish song. "Trout are freshwater fish and have underwater weapons". It all makes so much sense. Since then managed to track down the album. Although not a comedy as 'Fish' (well what could be?), the rest of the album is excellent. With some really cool funky tunes. The fish song has now achieved cult status amongst my friends and I'm sure a day doesn't go by without the words "Eating fish" passing my lips. BUY IT!

Scruff became something of a legend due to the Fish Song, which everyone who hears just has to listen to on repeat, but then they discover the rest of the album. No other album I have heard features fairground music set to a hip-hop beat. Scruff himself finds it hard to describe his music, which is one of the things you will come to love; you cannot sum it up. This is without a doubt one of the gems of my record collection.
Sublime
After track 5 "Get a move on" was used to play out in a club in Manchester the crowd went wild and I knew I had to have it. Was pleasantly suprised after buying the album to find a strange assortment of downbeat, upbeat, and strange references to fish! The strange mix of jazz, 20's swing, hip hop, unresistable funky beats and bizarre sampling concoxed with expert producing makes this a firm favourite with my CD player...buy it!
