Original and best...5
I have owned this recording on vinyl since the 70s and was glad to finally update to CD. I agree with the other reviewers, adding only that while Gillan's Jesus is outstanding (rivalled only by Steve Balsamo in recent years), it's Murray Head's Judas that is the exceptional vocal performance, and never really bettered by any since.

PS: If you're considering the latest cast recording featuring Steve Balsamo, one of the highlights is Alice Cooper's Herod. Priceless!

A classic version recorded with a cast that never appeared on stage.

On notable inclusion is Ian Gillan (of Deep Purple) as Jesus. He was given this role after Tim Rice heard Child In Time (off In Rock) and decided to approach Gillan as opposed to Robert Plant for the role.

A rare piece of Gillanrebillia

The Real, Raw and Original Version5
From the outset you realise this is not a sanitised West End version of this amazing rock opera but instead is a true raw collection of songs, missing at least one suggary song that was later added to the show to make it more accesible.

Great melodies, base lines and performances by mike D'Abo and (I think) a cameo by Gary Glitter, before he was famous then infamous, as a priest.

This version is not a musical, its a '60's Rock album.Stamp your feet and get the air guitar out.
