BARAFUNDLE is the first domestically released album by gentle Welsh eccentrics Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. It is their fourth album overall, their fifth if one includes 1996's collection of album and EP tracks, INTRODUCING GORKY'S ZYGOTIC MYNCI. The Gorkys' music is somewhat more grounded in the real world than their often-spacey work has been in the past. The arrangements are still peppered with Jews' harps and crumhorns, the credits include citations for "legs in trousers" and "armpit noises", and a number of songs are in the band's mysteriously melodic native tongue.
The songs are more fullyrealised than before, featuring strong melodies, captivating harmonies, and a number of memorable choruses-especially on the High Llamas-like "Starmoonsun" and "Patio Sun". An expansive, quietly psychedelic vibe permeates BARAFUNDLE, making the Gorkys sound uncannily like the charming transatlanticcousins of America's own Olivia Tremor Control and Neutral Milk Hotel.

Customer Reviews
God bless the Gorky's
A complete and utter joy from start to finish.
If you like the Stereophonics...you don't like music and you won't like this.....if you like the Super Furries.....then go forth and purchase.
Patio Song Brilliant
Buy this for the patio song, keep listening to it for the others, which are damn good also.
There's no one else like GZM
When I got Barafundle I didn't know what the singles sounded like.Based on the name of the band,I decided to take a risk & found out what their sound was like.I was very happy I did,for it is quite a different musical journey.
The melodies are unforgettable & the songs remind me of hobbits(I couldn't help thinking about Lord of the Rings when I listened to 'The Wizard & the Lizard'.)The songs are perfection, the stand-out tracks being 'Diamond Dew','Heywood Lane','Starmoonsun','Dark Night','Miniature Kingdoms'.
The only other band that sounds a bit like them is Jethro Tull('Mother Goose' from their Aqualung album wouldn't sound dated after listening to GZM.)
Buy this CD & enjoy the Welsh singing & the interesting lyrics sung in English. The lyrics may not make sense to you but boy are they original!
