Product Description

DAYDREAM was nominated for 1996 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year and Best Pop Album. "One Sweet Day" was nominated for Record Of The Year and Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals; "Fantasy" was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance; and "Always Be My Baby" was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
On DAYDREAM, Mariah Carey's singingexpands the panorama of its emotional release--her voice, having been a strictly powerful pure instrument, now taking on the thespian strategies of great vocalists. She has added subtle understatement to her bag of tricks. On the hit single "Fantasy", a groovin' piece of soulful pop based on a sample of the Tom Tom Club's "Genius Of Love", the chorus layersgenerous helpings of her voice. But rather than featuring the high-pitched lead she's famous for, the vocal parts reflect off each other in penetrating harmony. When she gets to cooing the key "I'm in heaven.".. refrain as the fade-out hook, Carey's voice carries an enticing faux-innocence to matchany of Madonna's good girl/bad girl come-ons. There is alsoher cover of Journey's "Open Arms", on which the a capella opening drifts into the stardust sound effects and the electric piano accompaniment, and the singer pours herself into astriking, minor-key declaration.
There's also a more obvious modern R&B sheen to DAYDREAM than any of Carey's previous work. "One Sweet Day", her collaboration with Boyz II Men, sways with the sugary gospel cum synth-soul feel of the Philadelphia quartet's grandest romantic ballads. "Always Be My Baby", co-produced by Carey and Jermaine Dupri, expresses the simple, catchy melodic poise of the R&B girl-groups of the late 1950's and early '60s. And a Carey album wouldn't becomplete without a track that rushes the listener onto the dance-floor. DAYDREAM'S nominee is David Morales' rolling "Daydream Interlude (Fantasy Sweet Dub Mix)" which explodes from a duet between Carey's vocal runs and a minimal keyboard part, into a house groove spurred on by tinklingly funky piano licks.

OVERALL GRADE: 10/10
Mariah Carey sure knows how to construct an album. She places herself between R&B and Adult Contemporary. From the brilliant dance of "Fantasy" and "Always Be My Baby" to the smooth R&B of the Boys II Men duet "One Sweet Day", this is one of her best.

Mariah's Daydream Is Romantic, Soothing & Relaxing.5
Daydream was Mariah's 4th studio album released in the fall of 1995, by this this time there was pressure on her to try and match, or even exceed the success of her last album `Music Box', and did she accomplish this? well the answer is yes, but she didn't just make another hit record that was nominated for numerous Grammy's, or that went on to sell tens of millions of copies, on this album she took more creative control than ever before, and there's plenty of evidence of Mariah developing not just her style, but as an artist.

Classic Mariah ballads make up a large percentage of this album, but this time around they have more of an edge, and they are deeper and more emotional, and for the first time guests are present, including contributions from Boys II Men and Jermaine Dupri, who appear on the songs `One Sweet Day', Always Be My Baby' and `Long Ago`.

In my opinion some of the best tracks on the album are firstly the incredibly moving `Open Arms', one of my favourite Mariah songs of all time, it reminds me of a war song because of all the lyrical references to the idea of being apart, hence the lyrics `living without you living alone / this empty house seems so cold', apparently the song was a reconstituted version of something similar to this written back in 1981, although I'm not sure, `I Am Free' was also another one of my favourites, it's basically about having been freed though love, again very very successful lyrically, the dreamy and drifting `Underneath The Stars' what can I say? I Have 99.9 percent of the time found Mariah and Walter Afanasieff collaborations to be a success, so i think that says it all, `One Sweet Day' was also very much a stand out track for me, a true ballad and one of the best, the collaboration between Mariah and Boys II Men was perfectly matched and worked a treat, `Always Be My Baby', `When I Saw You' and `Forever' were also among my favourites.

The fact that after the album had been nominated for various Grammy awards, but failed to even gain a single one is completely unimportant, because this album has already won the best prize of all, well for a start it's without a doubt timeless, and not just that it's also the fact it was brought to us by a superb artist who knows how to write songs, and knows how to captivate her audience in a way no other artist can, a certain triumph for the one and only Mariah Carey.

A very nice album4
A very nice album, around the time she started moving into RnB and was a good sound at the time and still a good sound today. One of the things I love about Mariah Carey is that ok you hear the singles which are good like one sweet day, fantasy, always be my baby, but in most cases the album songs which didnt get released are even better for example melt away one of her best songs ever, underneath the stars and forever- so beautiful. Even her bonus tracks and B sides are good like Slipping away the B side to always be my baby which is probably her best song ever. So I would always buy a Mariah album even if the first few singles are not so good because the album is usually much better. Another beautiful album. Only 4 stars as she has made better albums and this should be rewarded but this is still very good.
