Mick Hucknall is one of the most prodigious talents in the music business; anyone who disputes this statement need onlylisten without prejudice to Stars. His voice has a range, sensitivity and accuracy that puts others to shame, and enables him to journey between soul, hip-hop and jazz with alacrity. As if that were not enough, he has an almost Mozartian ability to compose melodies woven from the very essence of music. On Stars he left behind much of the narcissism of previous albums, gave the band high-quality material to develop and produced an enduring classic.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Such was the omnipresence of Britain's biggest selling album in 1992 and 1993, that Stars sounds like a Greatest Hits in its own right. It's always been fashionable for critics to sneer at Simply Red's phenomenal success, but there's no denying the sumptuous clarity which pervades everything here, from the doting, devotional "For Your Babies" to the deliciously understated "Wonderland". Even clumsy forays into social commentary--"Model" and the Tory-baiting "Your Mirror"--are partially redeemed by a couple of cracking tunes. Lest we forget, Stars was Simply Red's last album as a fully functioning band. Hucknall may well have since written songs to equal "For Your Babies" and "Stars", but bereft of Fritz McIntyre's sunny keyboard sound and Heitor T.P.'s crisp, angular funk playing, he's never quite sounded so Simply Red. --Peter Paphides

A Timeless Classic
I thought of Simply Red as just an average soul/funk band, but this blew me away when I first heard it back in 1992 and still gets a spin every few weeks now in 2006. Timeless pop music with unforgettable melodies and lyrics.
Effortless & Stunning
'Stars' is a masterpiece. Packed with perfect hooks, rhythms, and tunes, it comprises songs which are instant classics. Mick Hucknall sings his social commentary with a seasoned flawlessness which has to be heard to be believed. It is difficult to consolidate Mick Hucknall the icon with Mick Hucknall the artist.
The most spine tingly album ever!
This album has the most diverse range of tunes that I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. I admit to being a Simply Red fan but this album was a turning point in the life of the band's music....and it got me hooked! The jumping bean tempo of 'Something Got Me Started' gets the old feet moving! My personal favourite is the obviously girly appealing 'For Your Babies'! I could quite happily listen to the whole album and not get bored with the perfect mix of groove, romance and Mick Hucknall's fantastic belter of a voice.
