Average customer review:Product Description
One of Enya's most popular releases, WATERMARK is an enchantingly dreamy album, featuring washes of keyboards and ethereal vocals. On the title track, the gentle piano melody mimics the sound of falling water, and Enya's multi-tracked voice cascades over the music like a calm wind on a rainy night.
The most memorable composition on this 1988 record is the hit "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)". Marked by its keyboard-generated staccato strings and infectious vocal hook, this piece is probably the singer's best-known (and best-loved) song."Cursum Perficio" features a gloomy vocal reminiscent of Carl Orff's CARMINA BURANA, while "On Your Shore", "Na Laetha Geal M'Oige", and "Evening Falls.".. reflect Enya's traditional Celtic roots. WATERMARK is one of the finest New Age/popcrossover albums on the market, though its distinctive compositions transcend that label, making for much more than just a series of tranquil soundscapes.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Enya's 1988 recording, Watermark, achieved landmark success with her groundbreaking use of multi-tracking technology to fuse new age and Celtic themes and instrumentation. The meticulous production defines her sound and achieves continuity even while weaving together tender ballads, piano pieces, massively layered vocal harmonies and symphonic synthesizer movements. Although Enya's pristine voice isn't especially strong, her lead vocals possess a vulnerability that reflects the lyrics' sense of personal searching. From the ubiquitous, frothy single "Orinoko Flow" to the hard, bold edge of "Cursum Perficio", Enya's style remains fresh and engaging. --Richard Price

Just lose yourself
This was the album that put Enya on the map musically and it's easy to see why.Haunting vocals, mystical music and an artist of rare talent.
With many fantastic songs including 'Orinoco Flow','Storms In Africa' and 'Evening Falls',this is an album you can switch on,chill out to and just lose yourself. It has stood the test of time too and sounds as refreshing today as when it was originally released.
'Watermark' is a fine album, indeed it is a classic of it's type.Enya may not be to everyone's taste but she is a refreshing alternative to so much of the manufactured pop around today and deserves the worldwide success she has achieved.
Lusty, with pure beauty!
What can I say that hasn't been said? Love it! A combination of simplicity through the Roland D-50 used for the lead synths, and the multiple overlapping of vocals makes this a unique album - seamless, to be more precise. Obviously theirs nothing more to be said about Enya's vocal range, but her musical ability is fantastic; the way she contrasts low and high harmonies, to the accomplishment of giving this a universal 'world' sound is to be aspired by. If I was stranded on an island, this would be in my top 5 albums!

i first fell in love with enya's music at the age of 10, when introduced to this fabulous album by my mum. i have since purchased three further copies of the cd (i have one in the car, and one in the house), after having worn out my first!!
i have all of eny's cd's, but this remains my favourite. i find the music absolutely moving, and must listen to at least some of the cd every single day, yet i have never once become bored of it (even after listening to it for the last 21 years!!!).
all tracks on this album are absolute perfection, but in particular, the fabulous "exile" which is both haunting and soothing, and almost leaves me in a trance whenever i listen to it.
i would recommend buying this cd to anybody!! i certainly will again when i have worn out my current copies!
