Okay, this album's omnipresence (it produced no less than five charting singles out of 12 songs) on radio and television for over a year and a half--alongside singer Michael Hutchence's mass media anointment as THE premier rock and roll sex symbol of the late '80s--makes it difficult to hear KICK as simply an album. KICK isn't a pop culture icon on the level of BORN IN THE USA or IT TAKES A NATION OF MILLIONS TO HOLD US BACK, but once you've hit a certain commercial threshold and the inevitable backlash has set in (see also THE JOSHUA TREE and I DO NOT WANT WHAT I HAVEN'T GOT), the musical worth of a disc ceases to matter much. KICK's five hits are easily its best tracks, and the remaining seven range from excellent to inoffensive. If you want to mentally recreate 1988, look no further.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Throughout the early 1980s, INXS kept threatening to go big league, and with 1987's Kick they broke wide open, sending a sharp quartet of singles--"New Sensation", "Devil Inside", "Need You Tonight" and the shimmering ballad "Never Tear Us Apart"--right to the charts. The rest of Kick, especially the strutting "Guns in the Sky" and the groovy "Wild Life", is of similar quality; all of it is marked by the band's Stones-y guitars and angular, funk-tinged rhythms. Vocalist Michael Hutchence's MTV good looks and Aretha-meets-Aerosmith swagger completed the musical equation for both the girls and the boys. --Michael Ruby

Live on
I personally think this album is one of the seminal albums that set the tone for the 80's, nobody said what that decade had to say better than INXS's brand of enthusiastic Rock Pop fusion, With Kick INXS are at the zenith of their powers, every song is a work of quality and Michael Hutchence great voice compliments the style of the music perfectly, INXS achieved a sense of identity with this album, Like Queen you could tell an INXS song was going to be an INXS song just with the first few notes, songs like New Sensation, Need you tonight and Devil Inside are some of the most memorable hits in history and the albums packed with other great tracks like Calling all Nations and Kick, Trust me, this is a stunning album, the 80's was the decade style forgot but it's music will live on.
Kicks and Highs
This album still infuses energy..18 years on. 'Never Tears Us Apart' is a perfect song- lyrics , guitar riffs, drums- it has everything.
'Devil INside' runs a close 2nd followed by 'Need You Tonight' but 'Never Tears Us Apart' is definitely something apart- listen and you know what I mean.
Hasn't aged well i'm afraid
This album would be great for those of you that love 80s music. If you don't however stay clear, this album is very dated and like most 80s music hasn't aged well. Some of the songs i.e 'never tear us apart', 'need you tonight' are timeless, but i don't think it is worth buying an album just for a couple of songs.
