The last official studio recording of the 1990s for Guns N'Roses was 1993's THE SPAGHETTI INCIDENT?. This collection of mostly punk covers was released at a time when G N' R was reeling from both internal dissension (founding member Izzy Stradlin left after the release of USE YOUR ILLUSION I & II)and the great grunge explosion of 1991 that made the band seem passe. Rather than jumping on any bandwagons, the California quintet instead paid homage to heroes overlooked by kids caught up in buying the right kind of flannel.
Leading the charge was bassist Duff McKagan (who'd played with almost 30 Seattle bands including the Fartz and Fastbacks), G N' R recorded scorching covers of songs by Fear ("I Don't Care About You"), the New York Dolls ("Human Being"), and the Damned ("New Rose"). New guitarist Gilby Clarke provided a solid foil for Slash as Axl Rose crooned doo-wop (The Skyliner's"Since I Don't Have You") and sang with a faux British accent (UK Subs' "Down on the Farm"). Being Guns N' Roses meant controversy was never far behind and this time around the boys were criticised for including a hidden cover of Charles Manson's "Look at Your Game Girl".

Only one good song on it...
I bought this album as it was the last one I needed to complete my collection and I was impressed with the video for "Since I Don't Have You".
Unfortunately after that song the album turns very bad indeed with another 11 songs to trawl through. I have tried many times but can't get to the end.
A highlight of the album is Axl's funny English accent on "Down On The Farm". I don't know what to make of the song but it's very funny. I thought Nazareth's "Hair Of The Dog" might be quite good as the Britny Fox version is excellent. Sadly again I was dissapointed and it is the worst of the three versions available. Duff also sings on the album a few times and his voice is just bad. I hate his voice. Axl's the singer not you. One last irritating aspect of this album is not related to music but to the writing in the booklet. Axl says "Do yourself a favour and seek out the originals". Firstly no I won't as if they don't sound good coming from you I'm hardly likely to like the original versions and secondly Axl, what was the point of recording the covers if you're just going to tell us the originals are better and that we should listen to those instead.
I feel this album should have been released in the middle of a tour or as a bonus CD not as a proper album because it just sounds bad. I have heard his new material and look forward to Chinese Democracy. I hope it gets released as it would be a shame that this atrocity could be the last release by one of my favourite bands.
Meh!
There's nothing to be said that hasn't already been said in these reviews. To be blunt, BUY THIS ALBUM IF YOU LIKE GUNS N' ROSES, it's as simple as that!
Ignore all rubbish reviews that say, "It's the sound of a band breaking up". What a load of crap. Any half-wit guns n' roses fan would know that these were recorded at the same time as Use your illusion, even before! Trust me, it's a good album.
Make him stop! My ears are bleeding!
This is hideously bad. Its hard to believe this is the same group that brought us one of the greatest albums ever made, Appetite for Destruction!
Axl trying to put on an English accent is funny and a redeeming feature for the wrong reasons!
Tripe!
