Editorial Reviews

CD Description
It was clear early on in her recording career that Long Island's own Mariah Carey possessed a rare combination of qualities that would make her special. She had a commanding voice, an uncanny ear for a hit, commanding stage presence and aneffervescent personality. She was, in short, an American pop diva just waiting to be discovered.
When her eponymous 1990 debut sold more than 12 million copies, it was clear Carey would become the pop queen she'd always dreamed she'd be. From the doo-wop-influenced opening track "Vision of Love"to the sweet, last-dance ballad "Love Takes Time", Carey's debut was one of biggest-selling records of the '90s. It wasso popular, in fact, that four of the 11 tracks on the album hit #1 on the Billboard singles chart. MARIAH CAREY is Top40 perfection with a remarkable young talent at the centre of it all.

Most Stunning Debut Album5
This is certainly the best debut album i ever heard. Such a great debut has not been releases since "Whitney Houston" in the eighties.

The album gets started with a song that even now is still one of Mariah's greatest songs, her debut single and first US number one "Vision Of Love which includes perfect and remarkably strong vocals and amazing drum beats, it such a genius idea for a song, so well written.

"Theres Got To Be Away" sounds like a ballad at the start but it proves itself to be a breathtaking up tempo song which shows what Mariah wanted everyone to know, she can sing and she can write like nobodys buissiness.

"I Don't Wanna Cry" is emotional and pitch perfect, a ballad with the voice that i idolise coming throw so strong. I love it!!!

"Someday" is faster with those strong and immaculate vocals pouring through it, it has a great beat and was Mariah's third US number. The voice is what makes you fall in love with Mariah but her skills as a songwriter and producer are the best i know and even at the start of her career this woman knew what she was doing.

"Vanishing" is another one i fall in love with, her skills as a songwriter are displayed here very well and this could easily have been a single.

The songs on this cd all stand out and give you an album that will never be off the stereo. "Love Takes Time" is a very saddening and emotional song and is one of Mariahs great many outstanding vocal performances, i love it and you will as well. If you've heard a Mariah song and liked it then get this album and become bedazzled by this remarkable artist. My favourite artist EVER!!!!

Mariah Carey The Definitive Album4
If you want an album with Mariah Carey at her best singing voice ,at the top of her game this is the one. Powerful ballads and some catchy songs. The young Mariah before r'n'b kicked in at her purest vocals and top range.O.K.I love the lady and her music but this album is up there with her best!!!

Beautiful Beginnings...4
Although she is one of the worlds most successful recording artists of today (and still has more highs to come!),Mariah's debut album went by modestly and did not see its best songs released. Those who claim Mariah had no urban appeal until '95's 'Fantasy',have not listened to her whole back cataloge.Predictabley, Mariah's debut is ballad laden, but the funk was there from the beginning with grooves like 'You Need Me' to compete with the released 'Someday'.'There's Got To Be A Way'is a Gospel tinged beauty.'ODB' was not the first to MC on one of Mariah's songs,as is shown on 'Prisoner'and 'All In Your Mind' is a breezy song with a fun breakdown as the song closes.
The worst mistake Sony made was to not release the hauntingly beautiful 'Sent From Up Abouve' which would have seen Mariah's name spread throughout the Club scene. It is a promising, chilled club track that would have shown that there were more sides to Mariah than the big balladiva.
