A Soul Rock classic
What a surprise this Cult cd was, having read so many bad reviews of this album i wasn't holding out much hope of it being any good, well the critics were badly wrong, this has to be one of the most underrated records i've ever come across.Ceremony is a sizzling rock album with soul with more staying power than Sonic Temple IMHO.It also has one of the best Soul rock songs i've ever heard in "Sweet Salvation",the melody is superb and the lyrics sublime... add to this several out and out rockers such as the title track ,Wild Hearted Son,Full Tilt and White. If you like classic rock with a large dose of soul, buy this now.
Not as good as the previous three LPs but still a quality nugget of rock from the boys
This album deserves 4.5 stars but as I can't give that, I'm not downgrading it to 4! Ian and Billy had kicked booze and drugs into touch before they recorded this album so it's different, the wheels had come off a bit and they had time to reflect. As a result there are some more mellow moments onboard and Ian had the chance to go back to his American Indian ideas which consume the record. There are plenty of rockers of a similar vibe to those on Sonic Temple and the overall balance is superb. The last truly 'rock' outing from The Cult.
Listen, And Be Moved
This Album definately rates in my top 10 best of all time. It ranges from fast paced guitar solo filled rockers to lighters in the air singalongs. Tracks such as Earth Mofo and Wildhearted Son show why Duffy is rated so highly as a guitarist, and tracks such as Sweet Salvation really show off Ian Asterburys brilliant voice. If your into decent Rock music with good guitar solos and intelligent lyrics then give it a go.
