Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Rather than riding the headwinds of continued interest in vintage disco--this is the lady who sang "I'm Coming Out", after all--Diana Ross's 1999 entry, Every Day Is a New Day, is a set of soggy, adult-contemporary ballads and would-be "inspirational" numbers. If she's ever to score a radio comeback à la Cher, however, it'll be with one of the remixes tacked on at the CD's end. --Rickey Wright

ONE FOR THE DIE-HARD FANS ONLY2
This is Ms Ross's first new album since 1995's "Take Me Higher". Released on the back of "Not Over You Yet", Diana's most airplayed and chart-successful single for years, has it been worth the wait? Well, yes and no.

The opening track, "He Lives in You" (from Disney's stage musical 'The Lion King') provides a dramatic and promising opening. Sadly, that promise is soon lost, essentially because this album is a mish-mash of musical styles.

When performing ballads such as "Love is All That Matters" and "Someone That You Loved Before", Ms Ross is at her best, becuase it is the big ballads which generally satisfy fans of La Ross most. The problems start when she heads into material more fitting of TLC, Whitney Houston and, even, Lauryn Hill ("Hope Is An Open Window"), for it is here that the true limitations of Diana's thin voice are exposed so greatly.

Arguably, the most interesting aspects of this album are the comparisons between the 'original' and remixed versions of "Not Over You Yet". If proof were ever needed that even the most lacklustre of tracks can be made exciting by virtue of good mixing, then this is it.

However, that is not a good enough reason to buy an album. Sadly, this one misses the mark by a long way - and I am a huge fan - but a repetition of this mis-direction could be easily avoided. Ms Ross and her management need to understand that her market lies with big ballads, and stick with that niche rather than try to "do a Cher" and appeal to a wider (and younger?) market.

SHE WILL LIVE IN YOU!!5
The first song of EVERY DAY IS A NEW DAY is "He Lives In You". ROSS'S delivery is simply magnificent! Her crystal clear delivery will sweep you off your feet. This track has lived in me for over a year now, each time I hear it I literaly get chills. This is my all time favorite DIANA ROSS song.

Ross has gotten much better with age. Her nasal high pitched tone has been replaced with pure perfection. The way she belts out the second and third songs, "Love Is All That Matters" and "Untill We Meet Again" proves just that.

The smooth R&B track "Sugarfree" is a stand out with it's catchy chorous "oh baby without my love you'll always be sugarfree oh baby i'm the sweetest thing that you could ever recieve".

Her remake of Carry On is outstanding! This will Keep your finger on the replay button. Immediatley follows two hot dance remixes of Untill We Meet Again.

It is a shame that ROSS'S work in the nineties has not caught on in the US. To her devoted fans, I say pick this one up!!

A Brilliant come back Album5
Every Day is a New Day is a must buy for all Diana fans. Check out these amazing tracks first: 'He Lives in you' 'Love is all that Matters' 'Someone that you loved Before' 'Hope is an Open Window' 'Carry On' and not forgetting the song 'Not over you yet'. It is a brilliant album which reflects most sides of her personality.
