Recorded live for MTV's "Unplugged" program, this acoustic 1992 concert bears witness to Mariah's fantastic performanceskills. Equipped with her astoundingly powerful, lovely pipes, Mariah pulls #1 singles and b-sides out of the studio bag and makes live magic of them. Particularly on the numbers with a gospel chorus behind her, it's clear during at even the poppiest moments that this woman testifies when she picksup the mic, with echoes of divas like Aretha Franklin and Mahalia Jackson in her riveting vibratos.
Surely another part of what enlivens concerts like this one so much is the fact that Mariah helped pen all but one song - The Jackson 5's "I'll Be There". Backed by a dynamic band and the heartthrob Trey Lorenz, Mariah lights this classic ablaze with feeling, further affirming her love for her roots while staying true to her own vocal personality. "If It's Over", co-writtenby Carole King, takes a more traditional R&B turn with the brassy groove of the Saturday Night Live Horns, while the hit "Vision Of Love" is just plain rapturous.

Editorial Reviews
From Amazon.com
By the time she made her bow on MTV Unplugged, Mariah Carey was already a multi-platinum-selling artist who owned the charts, but didn't command much respect because no one had ever seen her perform live. As it turned out, Miss Thing could deliver as sure as Domino's, emoting significantly over soulful arrangements of several hits and a cover of the Jackson Five's "I'll Be There." That track became a No. 1 hit and earned a solo recording deal for featured backup singer Trey Lorenz. This may not be Carey's best record, but it's certainly her most surprising. --Daniel Durchholz

Despite being a 7-track EP and amazon charging you £4.98 for it, this is an extremely good live album. Mariah proves that she can sing live and proves all the critics wrong and blew critics and audiences away with her stunning vocal range!
poor chickens!
This album like all her other albums is over sung her voice has the sound quality of a strangled chicken!
Mariah Live
Mariah's only live album was among the last of her albums I bought, 'cause I thought I already had the songs on the "Mariah Carey", "Emotions" and "#1's" albums. When I began to listen it I realized immediately I should have bought it as soon as I fell in love with her voice. The song versions are slightly different than on the albums, which I like, but the main reason for loving this album is that while listening it I felt as if I were with Mariah and she were singing specially to me. Mariah said she felt very close to the audience and you will feel the same closeness when listening to this CD.
