Only a year after HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED, Dylan miraculously topped himself with further epigrams of surrealistic poetry and emotional intrigue. The pressure of a punishing touring schedule and high public profile helped drive him to an unbelievable fit of creativity as he spontaneously scribbled these gems in his hotel rooms. We were spoiled with a double album, more Dylan music than we had previously heard, yet still destined to endure. BLONDE ON BLONDE surrounds the folk-rock bard with the likes of Al Kooper, Robbie Robertson, Charlie McCoy and Kenny Buttrey, all seasoned musicians giving this album a relaxed confidence quite unlike the youthful energy of HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED. Decades later this album still rewards and surprises. A gigantic record in every sense.

Excellent album
This album truly is a classic and anyone interested or thinking about buying it definitely should, but I also want to note a previous comment saying that the Simply Vinyl release has cut some of the songs short. I recently purchased the album and was investigating the background of the copy I had received and learned that the recording past of Blonde on Blonde is a very complicated one. Rachel K said in her comment that Visons of Johanna has been cut short. From what I have gathered, Simply Vinyl has simply re-released the original recording. Many remixes have appeared on various vinyl's since then, but I believe that this is the original mix for Visions of Johanna. I also want to note that Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands has an entire side to itself and Rachel may have confused the two songs. Basically I just want to let prospective buyers know that this is supposed to be the original mix simply re-released.
OVERATTED,OVERHYPED SO CALLED'C:LASSIC'
Somehow i've missed out on Bob Dylan,so on advice i invested in what i was told were his three 'classics', 'Highway 61'(good)'blood on the tracks'(excellant) and what i was told was his masterpiece 'blonde on blonde'. What a let down! Am i missing something here? the band(or Dylan) are out of time and often out of tune. The songs struggle to find a rhythm and are often sloppy and on 'rainy day women' though at the time it may have been radical, now just sounds embarassingly trite. As for the lengthy 'sad eyed lady of the lowland' what an endurance test! Sure the lyrics are fine but it's no 'desolation row'and is neverending. Look, i realise i'm in the minority of one and i wanted to like it, but after repeated listens i put it in the same catergory as those other so-called 'seminal' albums 'music from big pink' and 'born to run' overratted and overhyped!
The fading track of SV's Blonde ON Blonde.
I LIKE SIMPLY VINYL.
Original First editions of Dylan's LP's are rare and tooexpensive. Simply Vinyl have often been my second choice, often my first! But this 'Blonde On Blonde, masterfully restored is flawed.
Originally 'Visions of Johanna' which takes up a whole side of the LP took up and slowly faded out on a harmonica solo - and ther's the rub.
When columbia issued it on CD they faded a goodly portion ofthe end of Visions of .... most of that plaintive haunting harmonica in fact. Then they redeemed themselves, briefly. After countless complaints they restored it on their limited edn 'Gold Disc'. (The standard issue remained the same)Only good 180g Vinyl could sound better to my ears. How dissapointing, then, to find the very fade that Columbia had visited on the UK CD Versions of this legendary recording repeated on the Simply Vinyl release.
Simply Vinyl are very modestly priced albums, solid 'audiphile' reissues of period masterpices. But, if you want to get ALL of Blonde on Blonde check with Simply Vinyl to see if they have corrected this 'oversight'. If they have BUY IT.
