Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
One of the most surprising things about this well-executed four-CD box set is the number of great songs Alice in Chains amassed after one decade and a mere six LPs and EPs into their career. Forty-seven songs, a CD-ROM game, and a multimedia version of the tune "Jar of Flies" populate Music Bank, which, true to its name, looks like a bank vault. Box sets are judged by their booklets and the quantity and quality of unreleased and alternate tracks. Music Bank succeeds amply--but does not excel--on both fronts. Early group photographs and even baby photos of Alice members make the booklet a hoot, while track-by-track liner notes from guitarist Jerry Cantrell are brief, if sometimes illuminating. The live, previously unreleased "Queen of the Rodeo", remixes, demos, and two new tunes make Music Bank a wise investment for fans of the foursome's memorable modern gloom-metal. --Katherine Turman

A great introduction
This box set is a collection of studio songs, live recordings and various other material, it includes all of the bands classic songs plus introduces the listener to many songs and versions of songs they may not come across in any other way. The songs themselves are fantastic and show why alice in chains are a master of their genre, however, my personal favourites are the songs taken from the unplugged session, they really show the band's capabilities and highlight all the good points about a truely great band. If this was a 3-disc set it would be of definite 5-star standard, however, the inclusion of the 4th disc is wholly unneccesary and has been reported not to of worked in many cases. Overall a great collection and a supurb introduction to any casual fan who wants to know what all the fuss is about.
Brilliant collection - dodgy 4th disc
Other reviewers have pointed out what a brillant collection this is for getting into Alice In Chains, so I won't comment further on that. Be warned, only portions of the CD ROM will work, and the game "The Journey" is completely inaccessible. Now you know why the price has been brought down!
An absolute must for any Alice in Chains fan
This is the ultimate buy for any fan of the amazingly understated and underrated Alice in Chains. I've often asked people if they liked AIC, only to be met with blank expressions. This is a crime considering the amount of absolutely stunning songs found on this box set.
This box set fully captures everything that was amazing about Alice in Chains. They came out with so many different kinds of music. From the incredibly heavy dirge of 'Man in the Box', to the self-critical 'Dirt', to the astoundingly beautiful 'Down in a Hole', this set takes all of their greatest songs and brings them together into three discs. It captures the best from all of their albums and EP's and combines it with demos, live recordings and rarities. Songs such as 'Social Parasite', 'What the Hell Have I?' and 'Fear the Voices' can now be found alongside their classics like 'Would?', 'Rooster', 'No Excuses' and 'We Die Young'.
The highlight of the collection for me is the tracks taken from their moving 'Unplugged' set. Although they may have been at a low at this point through Layne Staley's constant heroin abuse, they had never sounded so poignant and so incredible. It's such a shame that music this good had to come from years of self-destructive drug abuse.
There is nothing on this set that I would change as it perfectly captures everything amazing about this band. This set is worth every penny and should be an essential part of everybody's music collection.
