Customer Reviews

The best?2
If this is the best then what's the worst like? Brilliant musicianship ruined by inane lyrics. Gets two stars by virtue of 'Don't Fear The Reaper.'

You cannot fear Blue Oyster Cult3
What can I say about a group who plays melodic metal with sinister lyrics (hence my title). This compilation covers their period from the early 70's to the early 80's. Only half of this 16 track compilation is good (hence 3 stars). My two fave tracks are "Flaming Telepaths" & "Astronomy" (Secret Treaties). The 2 openers and the rest are ok, but you get that feeling that they and others including Rainbow influenced the commercialisation of Heavy Metal (Bon Jovi)in the 80's.

Overall its Heavy Metal for people who hate Heavy Metal

I forgot to mention that you do get the full 5 minute version of "Don't Fear (The Reaper)" (Agents of Fortune)

A Great Introduction to a Great Band5
As a cheap & cheerful introduction for the uninitiated you can't go far wrong with this excellent trawl through the vast & varied
catalogue of one of the USA's finest exports.Diehard fans will bemoan the absence of such Cult classics as "Dominance & Submission","Career of Evil","Divine Wind" & "E.T.I",but this CD provides a great overview of the band's first dozen years or so.Most first time buyers will come to this only knowing the classic "Don't Fear the Reaper",which still remains a definitive moment in BOC's career & which launched them on the path of stardom & notoriety, but there are plenty more treats in store. From the opening rocker "Cities on Flame" the beautiful & haunting "I Love the Night" to the staggering "Astronomy" & the hits "Burnin' For You" & "Joan Crawford",this is a compilation that oozes class. Here you will experience the Cult's singular blend of gothic horror, sinister wit, inventive & unique music & best of all the truly awesome guitar heroics of Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser.Buy this & become converted to the majesty of the original & one true Cult.
