Amazon.co.uk Review
Amidst the denizens of fabricated boy bands, Westlife's debut comes as an unexpected gem. With a strong management team behind them--courtesy of Boyzone's own Ronan Keating--Westlife became the first Irish boy band to top the charts with their first three singles. "Swear it Again", the album's opener, is reminiscent of 1970s American balladeers Chicago, but their weak cover of Abba's "I Have A Dream" is a welcome omission. Instead, we're treated to a fantastic reworking of funk metal outfit Extreme's "More Than Words"; singer Bryan's plaintive vocal make it a superb choice. With producers Steve Mac and Pete Waterman in charge, as well as perfect string arrangements and surprisingly thoughtful lyrics, Westlife puts these boys in place to inherit Boyzone's pop crown. --Shanthi Sivanesan
Customer Reviews
Great Start, i love em!
I didnt like westlife at first infact i was determined not to become a teenager like my sister who was mad on take that but 'if i let you go' came out and they looked and sounded so great i couldnt resist, neither could any other girls, although we all denied it because it was a boy band! anyway i still love them now and this album still comes out, the songs still sound fresh and new and its a really long album the westlife ones now seem really short compared. Anyway if you didnt buy it, buy it cus its great!
a great intro from the boys
I remember the exact moment I heard and saw westlife for the first time, It was on Smash hits and they were performing 'swear it again' Been hooked on the fab boys ever since.'Swear it again' was released in late 1999, a beautiful ballad.
This was followed up with 'if I let you go' a lovely spine tingling ballad.
'flying without wings' won the boys record of the year for 2000 and quite rightly so, it's the boys favourite of their catalogue, and they are justifiably proud of it.
they got to Christmas no 1 in 2000 with double A side 'I have a dream/seasons in the sun' 'seasons in the sun' makes it onto this album. this, is the kind of stuff that got be hooked, love ya boys.
