Amazon.co.uk Review
Despite the fact that Queen effectively ceased to exist way back in 1991 with the tragically premature demise of their peerlessly flamboyant frontman, Freddie Mercury, public interest in the band's awesome musical legacy shows absolutely no sign of abating. This third collection of the astonishingly baroque rockers' singles chart successes is augmented with a contemporarily re-jigged dance mix of their iconic collaboration with David Bowie as well as a choice selection of solo outings. Mercury's kitsch take on 1950's favourite "The Great Pretender" and the heroically operatic "Barcelona" rub shoulders with Brian May's strident "Driven By You" and histrionic "Too Much Love Will Kill You". Greatest Hits III, rather than being a barrel-scraping hotchpotch of leftover odds and sods, collates some of Queen's finest recorded moments; witness "The Show Must Go On" and "These Are The Days Of Our Lives", and ultimately serves to complete the band's perfect sonic circle. --Ian Fortnam
From Amazon.com
Though at first glance a third Queen hits collection might seem to stretch the bounds of credibility, upon reflection this collection may well be the most revealing and compelling of the lot. Gathered from disparate late-career band and solo projects as well as Freddie Mercury tributes with guest vocalists filling the shoes of the band's late singer (Elton John dramatically on "The Show Must Go On," George Michael playfully over-the-top on "Somebody to Love"), it's a collection that coalesces into a thematically and musically satisfying whole. Though oft criticized for their unapologetic excesses, Queen's brash infusion of rock and blues with operatic drama and scale (deliciously exemplified here by "Barcelona," Mercury's duet with diva Montserrat Caballe) was unique. III isn't so much a collection of hits as a well-paced, lovingly compiled homage to Freddie Mercury and his distinctly arch artistic vision. --Jerry McCulley

The Truth
Thank the lord above for Wyclef Jean feat.Pras Michel & Free!! Without them this would have been an abysmal effort from one of the most overrated moustachioed bunch of baffoons the rock/pop industry has ever produced whoose only appeal is to a gaggle of perm obsessed, musically deprived knitters.
If I had to created a top 10 of the worst songs ever recorded i'd have to think very hard about whether Barcelona was number 1 or 2, its absolutely terrible!!!
I think it is admirable of Wyclef Jean to make this attempt to make Mr Mercury's music . . . . .acceptable.
Avoid it, buy anything else, ever heard Master P and the No Limit Soldiers? Much better!
Best single disc compilation out there
Please disregard the ridiculous comments about this sublime CD being a collection of scraps and leftovers. It IS in fact easily the finest of Queen's Greatest Hits releases. For a start, this disc contains many "best ever" moments. "Too Much Love Will Kill You" is easily the best ever ballad in their entire cannon (and possibly the best ever track), featuring as it does Freddie's best ever vocal performance. Spine tingling, especially at the climax. "You Don't Fool Me", as well as being a great pop song, contains Brian May's best ever recorded guitar solo. Another spine-tingling moment. "Heaven For Everyone" & "Days of Our Lives" remain Roger Taylor's best ever songs. "Las Palabras De Amor" has the best ever melody in a Queen song. "Princes of the Universe" is the best ever hard rock number the band recorded. "Driven By You" is Brain's best ever solo performance. Likewise, "Barcelona" is Freddie's. This CD, more than any other, is the perfect introduction to this versatile band because it contains all the genre-hopping the band are famous for (and why they're loved by so many.) Rock, Pop, Opera, Dance, Ballad, Rap (yes that one isn't bad either)it's all here. If you only get one Queen CD, get this one. By the way, if you're like me and have heard the original "Under Pressure" far too many times, the remixed version included on this is now favoured by many fans, including myself...
Not as good as expected
The first two "Greatest Hits" albums by Queen are great. They managed to include most of their major records. You should buy them if you are a rock or Queen fan.
Now lets have a look at this CD. First of all, there are some slightly minor hits that could of included, as well as major ones like "Princes of the Universe", "These Where the Days of Our Lives", "Las Palabras de Amor" and "Thank God It's Christmas" (thankfully on the CD). I think they could of included "Keep Yourself Alive" (Queen's debut), "Brighton Rock", "In the Lap of the Gods", "'39", "Tie Your Mother Down", "Sheer Heart Attack", "I'm in Love With My Car" and others. Some truly great songs missed.
I don't mind the solo projects of Mercury and May, but I really don't see why 5 songs from "Made in Heaven" were included. The songs already on previous "Greatest Hits" sung by different people ("The Show Must Go On" by Elton John, etc.) aren't paticually good either.
And then there's some awful songs that deserve no place on any Greatest Hits CD. Wyclef Jean's version of "Another One Bites" is a bastardization of a great song. Completely missing the purpose and theme of the original. The remix of "Under Pressure" is pretty rubbish as well.
So overall I would only recomend this CD if you don't have "Made in Heaven" or if you're a massive Queen fan. If you are a casual fan, buy Greatest Hits 1 and 2, and you will enjoy them.
