Product Description

Although other Seattle bands of the grunge boom scored bigger hits than Mudhoney, the band is in many ways the quintessential Emerald City group. Rising from the ashes of garage punkers Green River, Mudhoney were all about power chords andfuzz distortion, taking their cue from such early-'70s proto punks as the Stooges and Alice Cooper. With attitude and energy taking precedence over instrumental wizardry (courtesyof guitarist Steve Turner), and Mark Arm's snide vocal delivery and un-amused lyrics, Mudhoney were one of the quintessential garage rock bands of all time.
After going on hiatus in 2000, the band issued its first best-of collection, the double-disc set MARCH TO FUZZ. While the first disc comprises its best-known tracks, the second disc features raritiesand oddities. Standouts include such Mudhoney anthems as "In N' Out of Grace", "Suck You Dry", "Sweet Young Thing Ain'tSweet No More", "Let it Slide", and of course their classic"Touch Me I'm Sick".

Hail to the Gods of Scuzz5
First time I saw Mudhoney they were supporting Sonic Youth way back in 1988/89 (can't quite remember!) and they blew S.Y outa the building! All I can say even now, (18 or so years later) is that they STILL can't be beaten...it was an epiphany seeing them...the Stooges for my generation. Low down, durty, scuzz, fuzz noise, lyrics which come from the heart and gut and hit you with such force..ANNND! make you laugh and cry...jeez these guys have got the lot!
Ignore all that 'Grunge' rubbish that MTV etc created...these guys were/are the real deal...utter perfection, and I love them for it. :-)

The Real Grunge Gods5
This is, without question,Mudhoney's finest hour. From the bludgeoning opening of 'In 'n' Out Of Grace', to the inwardly pointed emotions of regret and hate in 'I have To Laugh', through the bitter acceptance of 'You Got It', to the melodic 'If I Think', and then into the way 'Touch Me, I'm Sick' actually sounds sick. This is undoubtedly Dirge, or 'Grunge' at its finest.
Mudhoney area band who can instigate the base human emotions through their simple, but effective style of playing.

unbeatable garage punk5
For me, Mudhoney are possibly the most underated band of all time. Overshadowed by bands who idolised them, these fellas seem happy to disgust MTVites with their lovely racket.

The first CD, the 'best of' conjures up some great songs including the obvious classics 'Touch Me Im Sick', 'Suck You Dry', 'Sweet Young Thing..' and the like aswell as the lesser known songs such as 'One Thousand Forms of Mind' and 'Into Yer Shtick'. For me these are the standout tracks, but its one of those albums you can play all the way through due to the variety of styles in the songs and the humour that runs through almost every track.

The second cd is a mix match of covers, b-sides and random songs. Here Mudhoney's humour (which makes them my favourite band) shines through, especially with tracks like 'Hey Sailor'.

the general message is go buy it..NOW, run! faster!
