Joys of manual labour. "There's a manual?" "Reading sucks!"
This compilation of episodes, released at the same time as the first video, 'There Goes The Neighbourhood', follows the gruesome twosome's (mis)adventures at work in the McDonalds-esque 'Burger World', and further afield; and as per-usual, they manage to cause chaos wherever they go.
The tape kicks off with early episode 'Burger World', in which the pair find a dead rat, and deep-fry it with a load of other gunk and serve it to Mr. Anderson. Being an early episode, the animation is rather 'sketchy'. However, this episode is (in my opinion) much better and much more re-watchable than some other rather 'hollow' early episodes.
The next episode, 'Customers Suck', has the duo trying to cope with... well, customers - something which is quite a hardship for them. There's more mis-use of the fryer; this time, Beavis fries a telephone. This episode does not even clock up 3 minutes running time, so I am almost certain it is cut down in some way; though I had not seen this particular episode before so aren't certain.
'The Butt-head Experience' sees Butt-head falling asleep at work and dreaming of himself and Beavis as rock stars (well, enthralling audiences by simply standing on stage and chanting rock riffs in their own incomparible, un-tuneful way). A rather limited, unmemorable episode. Déjà vu: the 'toad licking' scene at the end of this episode was previously used in the episode 'Sick' (later released as part of 'The History Of Beavis Part II') (Recycling of opening / closing scenes was fairly common on early episodes).
In 'Be All You Can Be', an Army recruitment officer tries to persuade the duo to sign up. Needless to say, he's got his work cut out for him, and soon regrets it! Again, one of the better early episodes.
The next episode, 'Cleaning House', is from slightly later in the series, as are all episodes after it on this tape. In it, their hippie school teacher Mr. VanDriessen tries to teach them "the joys of manual labour", by paying then to clean his house. Unfortunately for him, the mischievous morons get their hands on his irreplaceable 8-track collection. A fairly good episode.
'Sperm Bank' sees the duo selling their sperm for money. Again, is 'mayhem ensues' too obvious? Maybe rather surprisingly, this episode is not as crude as it might be (though still has its moments). Another fair episode, though there are better.
'Blackout' sees the town hit by a power cut. Unable to work out why the TV has stopped working (they don't even realise the lights have gone off!), the pair deduct they must go and watch TV somewhere else. They end up directing traffic for Mr. VanDriessen, with predictably destructive consequences. With numerous amusing lines (when the TV goes dead: "This sucks, change it!", "Uhh... the remotes broken", and "Hey Butt-head, what's wrong with the TV?", "Uhh, I dunno. Let's kick it!"), this episode is, in my opinion, the best one on the tape (despite having the loosest 'work/money' connection).
The tape's final episode, 'Closing Time', sees the action back at Burger World, with the pair on night shift. Time for some more inappropriate frying (this time worms!), and fun throwing things up into the ceiling fan, totally smothering the place in burger mix; until the health inspector turns up!! Again, another fair though not top-notch episode.
There are numerous other (and, it could be said, better) Burger World-based episodes, but too many Burger World-related episodes on this one tape would have probably made it too repetitive. More (and arguably better) Burger World episodes are on later releases (such as 'Citizen's Arrest' and 'No Service', both on the release 'Troubled Youth'). There's also further money-making-related (again, disputably better) on 'Hard Cash'.
Though I enjoy this tape, it is one of my less favourite B&B videos, and I generally watch it less regularly than most of the others.
All in all, not a terrible tape, but one of the lesser Beavis And Butt-head releases. The episodes contained are individually pretty good overall, but would fare much better with a few stronger episodes to hold them up. As it is, this tape generally feels to be all rather 'middle of the road' episodes. I'd only particularly recommend this one if you already have some of the better B&B video releases.
However, this tape is available as part of the 'Beavis and Butt-head: The XXX Collection' box set, which also includes 'There Goes The Neighbourhood' and 'The Final Judgement'. This box set is good value for money, and this particular video is more appealing when packaged alongside the other two (generally stronger) releases.
work sucks but this tape dosn't
this is not the greatist b and b video but still is packed with classic cartoons. The best thing about it is the fact there are no music videos and just the cartoon. In this video you will see beavis and butt-head cook a rat and some flies and serve them to anderson. find out their favorite shift and see them give sperm. the episodes on it are burger world, customers suck, the butt-head experiance, be all you can be, cleaning the house, sperm bank, blackout and closing time.
Never Again
I bought this on the pre-requisite that Daria was taken from Beavis and Butthead. Never again. If you like Daria, you'll hate this.
