Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
This 1992 crowd pleaser made almost as much money for Whitney Houston as its chart-busting soundtrack. A high-wattage star vehicle as only Hollywood can make, The Bodyguard stars Houston as a pop-music diva (now there's a stretch) and Kevin Costner as the stern bodyguard who is assigned to protect her after the singer receives some nasty death threats. Pop star and bodyguard don't hit it off at first, but they wear down each others' defenses, and before long Houston is baring her tonsils with a rousing rendition of the Dolly Parton chestnut "I Will Always Love You." The film, written by Lawrence Kasden, was originally intended for Steve McQueen, but the script languished for years before Houston took an interest in the project. A proposed sequel would potentially have starred Costner and Princess Diana, until Diana's tragic death precluded that possibility. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

whitneys requiem
Whitneys lastt good tune and film
it was all downhill from here
but this is a classic chick film and my daughters love to play it every 6 months or at girl parties
The Bodyguard Is All Round Fantastic, But Don't Just Take My Word For It.
The Bodyguard was a film more famous for it's incredible 30 million+ selling soundtrack rather than the film itself, but after much advertising and publicity `The Bodyguard' became a box office smash hit, the fact that the film had two very well known leads, also dramatically helped the films success.
The plot is about a famous & successful singer, Rachel (Whitney Houston) hiring a very reputable, ex-secret service bodyguard, Frank (Kevin Costner) to guard her because she has received threatening letters, and is being stalked, Frank is sometimes very overprotective but in the end Rachel sees it is for the best, throughout the film their relationship strengthens, until finally a love affair between them is realised.
I think the film in general is great, fantastic leads, Whitney's acting was brilliant, she was brave to take her critics head on when she chose her debut film role as a lead, it could have easily flopped as for many successful singing stars pursuing acting, it has done just that. The film has everything action, romance and even the thriller aspect to it, it's a classic indeed, but you can't deny that without the soundtrack I seriously don't think this film would have done half as well as it has, final verdict, fantastic and a must see.
Top Musical Drama suprisingly well acted
Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) is an experienced Body Guard with a bit of history who is reluctant at first to take on the role of protecting Rachel Marron(Whitney Houston) a pop superstar who is getting death threat letters....Houston plays the difficult spoilt childish brat whilst Costner plays the cool I know what I am doing bodyguard...Whilst the film may have a lot of cliches, it certainly gels together well especially as the relationship develops between Costner and Houston.....No one would have denied the quality of the soundtrack at the time it was made and certainly Houston's version of "I will always love you" stands out more than most...This is a pleasant film with action, music, drama and above all a performance by Costner very alike to the great Steve McQueen...Likewise for a singer become actress Houston performs very credibly in her first ever motion picture role....you'll be pleasantly surprised.....
