Amazon.co.uk Review
Friday is the rarest specimen of African American cinema: a hood movie refreshingly free of the semi-seriousness and moralism of shoot-'em-up soaps such as Boyz N the Hood, yet still true to the inner-city experience. Scripted by rapper Ice Cube, Friday is a no-frills tale of a typical day in the life of a pair of African American youth in South Central. Cube plays Craig, a frustrated teen who endures the ultimate humiliation: getting fired on his day off. Then unknown Chris Tucker plays Smokey, a marijuana-worshipping homeboy whose love for the green stuff lands him in predicament after predicament. Sitting on the stoop of Craig's rundown home, the two hilariously confront a kaleidoscopic array of gangbangers, weed dealers, crack heads, prostitutes, scheming girlfriends and neighbourhood bullies--all of whom, it should be noted, come off as sympathetic even as they are being caricatured, a true achievement in the crass, "booty call" environment of 1990s African American comedy. --Ethan Brown, Amazon.com

Synopsis
Thoroughly charming and totally hilarious day-in-the-life comedy in which co-writer Ice Cube plays the stoic Craig opposite Chris Tucker's Smokey, a brilliantly rendered hyperactive marijuana enthusiast. The two twentysomethings, Craig recently wrongly fired and Smokey terminally slacking and scamming, barely make it through one highly eventful day. Eloquent commentary on themes like community, family, friendship, and violence is seamlessly blended with lighter treatments of young romance, bathroom emergencies, nosy neighbors and much more. Casually impeccable performances by the entire cast make this film a standout.

MAD!
The funniest, coolest most amazing piece of film I have ever seen. You could watch this film everyday for the rest of your life and still love it. The best 'hood' movie, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER.
Friday - A Film That Once Watched You Will Never Forget
This film is a excellent portrayal of life eleven years ago in America. Not only does this film have laughter, punch-lines and memorable characters but a meaning and a resemblance of life back then and a similarity with life even today. I first watched this film in 2001 at the tender age of 13, I remember watching it with my older brother and really enjoying it. The main basis of the film has already been commented on through many other reviews, so I will keep it short. The film follows Craig (Ice Cube) on a Friday and shows the obstacles that he faces. This must have some meaning as it started Chris Tucker's career and he is phenomenal in this. I feel the following two films could have been so much better if he was included in them but Chris Tucker decided against Friday 2 to get paid $25 Million for RushHour Two instead. In conclusion, this film must be watched by anyone who considers themselves a "Gangsta" and really anyone who enjoys "Rap" which is nearly every teenager now, as this film has many Rap based songs and is hugely enjoyable to most.
One of funniest films of the 90's!!!
What can I say that hasn't been said already? This is a superb film and awelcome addition to anyone's DVD collection. Chris Tucker is phenomenallyfunny as Smokey, and it's obvious from this film that he was going to gofar.
All the characters are well written and acted; and are the key tothe film's brilliance. BUY IT!!!!
