Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Shania Twain comes full circle on The Woman In Me, co-writing 11 out of 12 songs [the others are remixes and a CD-ROM video] and proving that she can do more than sing. Once again she crosses over into pop/rock territory with this multi-platinum affair, bringing legions of new fans into the country camp. Peppered with hits such as "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" and "Any Man of Mine", this album features crisp and clear vocals and country-flavored pop arrangements. Husband and co-writer "Mutt" Lange, known for his production work with hard hitters Def Leppard, has produced a fresh sound for country, enhancing the traditional with a more gritty, gutsy sound; even the more delicate tunes resemble those power-pop tunes from the 1980s. Woman in Me is music for all occasions: danceable, romantic and powerful. --Paula Ghergia

Customer Reviews

'Woman in me'- simply the best!5
Having heard Shania's other albums- Come on Over and Up!, I felt a curiousity to listen to the 'Woman in me', the songs of which she has sung in many concerts. This Audio CD definitely has a value for money!

The play track consists of 12 songs including hits like 'Home ain't where his heart is (anymore);, 'Any man of mine', 'Whose bed have your boots been under', 'If you are not in it for love', 'God Bless the child' etc. The songs are absolutely great, with great instrumental accompaniments. There are 4 bonus tracks, including a Quicktime video of 'God Bless the child'. The sound and picture quality are great!

Produced by Mutt Lange, and written by Twain & Lange, this CD is definitely an excellent choice for those who want to listen to great music!

Surprisingly Great!5
This is really great! Is the first country album I've ever owned and I love it! When I bought it back in 2001 I didn't know what to expect, I just thought it would contain a lot of country crap and cheesyness, but it turned to be an excellent country ballads album with a few rock moments.
My favourite songs on the album are "(If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here!", "Any Man Of Mine", "No One Needs To Know" and "God Bless The Child".
The album sold amazingly great in the USA and won a lot of Grammys in 1996. In the UK it was re-issued in 2000 and the come-from-nowhere success it had is unexplainable, it reached No.9 in the Official UK Top 40 Albums.
Buy it, because it's great, you won't be disappointed!

From Country Gal to Diva5
From the opening bars of "Home aint where the Heart is", it is clear that this was a massive leap forward from Shania's self-titled first album. Whilst the underlying feel is pure country, the song's content and chorus showed a new maturity. It is clear that the input of Mutt Lange was having positive results. This maturity and feeling carries forward in some great ballads such as "Raining on Our Love" and the sublime "Woman in Me". The roots of country are still adhered to in foot stomping numbers such as "Whos bed has your boots been under and "Any Man of Mine", but there is a clear move towards more crossover tracks suck as the excellent "Not in it for Love". European fans have the blessing of 4 extra tracks including the excellent live medley of "Love Songs" that follow the charming "No one Needs to Know".

Hindsight is one a blessing when reviewing a record you love, and whilst "Come on Over" has more commercial hits, "Woman in Me" has more charm and deeper set feelings. Perhaps the ballads do not reach the heights of "From This moment", but they just seem more personal. This is an album that not only suggest better things to come, it is also the album that establishes Shania as one of the true Divas of the 21st Century
