Amazon.co.uk Review
The follow-up to Hall's 1997 debut, Medicine 4 My Pain, The Other Side is more pared-down, with its spare, clean arrangements and cool restraint. As well as writing the songs, Hall has played all the instruments, and this has resulted in a more personal, intimate set. Hall is fast becoming an urban soul poet like Bobby Womack, investing his songs with an intelligent male sensitivity. There's "If I Had To Choose", his letter to an estranged father; or the insouciant "Stepping With Victor", where a seemingly flippant lover reveals his insecurities ("She was sleeping with Victor / and it's fine"); or the self-deprecating "Hard Way", where he croons: "All I'm left with is two prophylactics / I thought I came up to par." Smooth and funky, yet very "real", Hall proves that he is more than a one-hit wonder. --Lucy O'Brien

Easy on the Eyes and Easy on the Ears
Ok, so he sounds like D'Angelo and he reminds you of Maxwell.......But yet there is a little subtle difference that does it for me!!! The screams and moans of Maxwell and D'Angelo are fine and dandy....it even works for them. But you see, Lynden sings to you, softly, gently, tenderly, err uhhh, excuse me, getting back to the review. My favorite tracks are ALL OF THEM, but "Forgive Me", "To Be A Man", "Where is God", are some of the most soulful songs on the album and are done with exquisite taste. Mr. Man even does his version of the old Staples song "Lets Do It Again" and guess what??? IT WORKS. This CD is a must buy for all of you soul music fans.
summer memories
i first heard this album sitting on a beautiful sandy beach in Sweden on a selteringly hot day a couple of years ago. Every time we would arrive at the beach bar, this fantastic music was playing. I eventually asked the barman who it was and he produced this CD cover. I promptly found a music store and purchased it for myself and each time I listen to it I am transported back to happy sunny seaside days. Memories apart, the music and melodies are fantastic anyway.
"Sounds from above"
At first words failed me. I truely thought the first album was amazing but this second album is 100% sensational. I rarely find an album which holds me with every track, which this one does. This album lays down one great track after another. For me and dare I say it , there are many similarities to D' Angelo. But for me this album may even top Voodoo! (Which I thought would NEVER have been possible).
