Amazon.co.uk Review
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver tells the story of Raziel, one of the undead lieutenants of the vampire lord Kain. Jealous of Raziel's newly evolved wings, Kain tears them apart and casts his former champion into the netherworld. But a powerful entity that dwells in the netherworld has restored Raziel to a semblance of life and has set him on a path of vengeance.

After this tantalising movie introduction, you take control of Raziel in the spectral realm, where your new existence is explained to you. From there you enter the physical plane, ready to begin your quest for power and revenge. Raziel's combat moves are extremely brutal, as you'd expect from a vampire who has returned from the dead. When he finds a spear, Raziel gleefully stabs and slashes before he impales his foe, lifts it off the ground, and feasts on its soul. Doing so enhances Raziel's power, and devouring the souls of the rest of Kain's lieutenants is the only way to get the special abilities--scaling walls, phasing through gates, etc--needed to reach Kain himself. While fun for adults, parents should take note: this game is definitely not suitable for kids. --John Cocking

    Pros:
  • Agile, fluid character animation and combat moves
  • Beautiful scenery
  • Ability to glide using the tattered remnants of Raziel's wings
    Cons:
  • Convoluted topography
  • Sometimes awkward camera angles
  • Lack of direction

A great Game for PSone that can be played on the PS25
A long time ago when the psone was still king of the consoles i owned this game.Recently i purchased the rest of the Soul Reaver and Blood Omen games for PS2.After playing them i saw this as a cheap second hand game.**Remember - if you are playing this on PS2 you will need a PSone memory card!!**
So this game stood the test of time? And does it stand up against PS2 games? The answer is a big YES!True the graphics aren't as good as PS2 but they are effective and not dreadful at all.The sound is good and atmospheric. There are plenty of puzzles that are smart, sometimes tough, but always rewarding once you have solved them.Raziel, the lead character, starts off with no powers but you gain more as you progress through the game. And by gaining these powers, more areas are opened up to you.
The storyline is excellent too.How often do you get to play a vengeful vampire?
I don't wish to spoil all the ins and outs of the game so i will stop there. However, i will say that the nearest game i can compare this to is the original Tomb Raider on psone. It is addictive and fun and will keep you entertained for a long time.It is the sort of game that you 'just want to do the next bit before turning it off'.
At these second hand prices you SHOULD be buying this game - but only if you are in your teens or older. The puzzles are quite hard for the younger audience.Remember, you need a psone memory card. And also, remember there are more Soul Reaver, and Blood Omen games out there for PS2!

i would give it 10 stars if i could!5
the first thing you notice when you start the game for the first time is the easy playing style and fast fluid movement of Raziel the central character...the way he attacks vampires is fantastic and he has an awesome killer blow when armed with a staff or with the Soul Reaver... Second thing you notice is the excellent rendering of the environment...immensely detailed landscapes make this world exciting to explore.... third thing you'll notice after a short while is that the place is so huge!!..its great to explore but so easy to get lost...its vast and sprawling mountains and castles can have its drawbacks...for instance..when you complete a task you are told what to do next...but where do you start looking??..this is what i found frustrating while playing the game..its possible to spend hours searching for a clue for what you have to do next.... that aside, Roul Reaver, The Legacy of Cain is absorbing and keeps you addicted for days, weeks even, and once its completed...its with regret that you have to wait so long to see if they are going to make a 3rd edition

the sound effects are exellent...powerful and eerie and the camera angles are great although somewhat strange at times and it can be difficult to see whats going on... one of the best things about this game is that you have so much control over Raziel...gliding is so much fun and with the Flaming Roul Reaver you cant wait to meet the enemy and kill them....he he he.. I recommend it 110%

Reave with me!4
This game has got some of the best locations that I have seen so far on the playstation! Also it has very little loading time which is suprising when you look at the free roaming enviroment.

The only thing that let this game down is the enviroment, it is so big that getting lost is not that hard.

This is a good game and I recommend it to anyone that likes a bit of gothic fun. But i warn you if you get lost then there is very little chance of finding the right route!

THE BEST GOTHIC GAME OUT NOW!
