CD Description
In the history of rap music, there are few artists who can be labeled as pioneers. One such artist is Slick Rick who, along with partner Doug E. Fresh, is the rapper responsible for such long-standing hip-hop classics as "The Show" and "LaDi Da Di". With the special rhythmic flow of his accented vocals (he was born and raised in England) and powerful, innovative production, THE GREAT ADVENTURES OF SLICK RICK further led Rick Walters down the road of quick, massive fame and sealed his reputation as a master MC.
At the time of thissolo debut, Slick Rick's personalised style was ground-breaking. The first single, "Children's Story", crowned Rick theking of rap's storytellers. He was able to turn the truthful pain and hardships of his community into entertaining tales that opened the eyes of the industry, and gave hip-hop a new thematic avenue. With the exception of LL Cool J's "I Need Love", Rick's "Teenage Love" was rap's most popular slow jam, dealing realistically with troubles of the heart experienced by most inner-city youngsters. Taking on the role of various characters--particularly, The Ruler and MC Ricky D--Slick Rick also began the role-playing, playwright style of rap music that is continuously used by any number of gangsta crews.
Although it was released in 1988, THE GREAT ADVENTURES OF SLICK RICK has had a lasting impact on the hip-hop nation, which still pays hommage by continuously sampling "HeyYoung World" and featuring the album's most famous cut, "Mona Lisa", at parties on both coasts.

Nuthing short of amazin5
For those who know nuthing about Slick Rick and want to investigate further, BUY THIS ALBUM. This album is nuthing short of amazing, i was only in diapers when this was realesed but when it was im sure that it caused up-roar. The source (when it's mic reviews were to life and die by) gave this album 5 MICS, the highest rating any album could be given. This album is just a breath of fresh comedic air from the other artists around the time (Boogie Down, Eric B & Rakim etc)tracks such as teenage love, childerens story and hey young world as ones which you can still relate to today. This album is one of the best hip hop albums of all time.

A TRUE HIP HOP CLASSIC!!!!!5
I still remember the 1st time i heard slick rick back when i was 11 and feeling goosebumps running up the back of my neck when i heard "Childrens story" & "The moment i feared" on a Def Jam compliation i got for chirstmas, Trust me Slick Rick is undisputably one of the greats his story telling skills are second to none. Slick Rick is one of the few rappers i have big respect for along with Krs One, Chuck D, Ice T, Biggie, Kool Keith Etc. Everyone who is into hip hop should have this album this is when hip hop was real and talent + creativity were a prerequisite for respect, trust me chuck out your cassidy, chingy, twista, missy, dmx, ludacriss etc and invest in this a true hip hop classic.

Slick Rick is the Dr. Seuss of Hip-Hop5
I love this album. As a kid I would listen to this constantly between the summer of 88' and 89 going to and from Coney Island with my sister and my cousins. Slick Rick has been one of my favorite hip-hop artists. His debut album is an perfect example of the genre's finest old school sound. He is so original that you can recognize his style instantly from the rest and why he is "The Ruler." His English accent is extremely original and his flows coincides his accent perfectly. Slick Rick has earned the title "Father of story-telling Hip Hop," for a reason.

Once you listen to this you would understand why artists cover him, and mix in some of his cool lyrics, because even they know; it doesn't get much better than this. All his tracks are good, except for a couple weak ones, "Treat Her Like A Prostitute," "Mona Lisa," and the well-known "Children's Story" are classics I never get tired of hearing, but the absolute treasure on this album is "Hey, Young World." This song exceeds all standards and sends nothing but love, and Rick's message is one needed to be played often and listen to.

If you're able to get a hold of this disc you will understand why he is what he is.
