wwf superstars with ECW personalities
royal rumble 2000 was 1 of the best events ever and in my opinion along with summerslam is the best event of 2000.
The royal rumble kicked off with the undefeated kurt angle against an unamed opponent which turned out to be tazz.
the match wasnt the longest but when tazz choked out angle and was controvesialy ruled the winner, tazz showed the wwf that despite his size he is going to be a tough nut to crack.i give this match 2 1/2 stars.
next up was the hardy boyz against the dudleyz in the first ever tables match which turned into an ecw rules match.
the hardyz won by putting first bu bu ray threw a table which the people watching at home was going to be a a leg dro pfrom matt hardy but as matt hardy leaped onto bu bu ray jeff came flying out of nowhere and also helped put bu bu threw a table.
at the end of the match jeff hardy and bu bu ray dudley were fighting on the balcany above the stage and jeff hardy managed to get bu bu ray off the balcany and threw not 1 not 2 not 3 but 4 tables!
jeff hardy was still on the balcany and his brother matt layed d-von dudley on the table and jeff did a swanton bomb of the balcany and put d-von threw a table!i give this match 5 stars.
next we saw the miss rumble swimsuit competition which started off well but was ruined when mae young came out to ruin the party, you may want to fast forward past this part.i give this 5 stars for the begining and 0 stars for the end.
next up was a triple threat match for the intercontinental title between the co-champions chyna and chris jericho and hardcore holly.
decent match a good efort from chyna who was being pushed arouned a bit by jericho and hardcore holly.
in the end chris jericho hit the lionsault on chyna to pick up the victory and become the undisputed intercontinental champion.i give this match 3 stars.
up next was the tag team titles on the line between the new age outlaws and the acolytes.
this was short because x-pac interfered so not much to see but would of been a good match if x-pac didnt interfere to help the outlaws retain thier titles.
i give this match 2 stars.
now we come to the match of the night.
wwf title was on the line in a street fight between hhh and cactus jack.
this match has got to be the most brutal matches of all time and certainly was the most brutal at the time since undertaker and mankind at king of the ring 1998.
so many weapons in this including steel chairs, handkuffs, 2x4 rapped in barbed wire (which at 1 point had hhh screaming!)
and some thumb tacks(or pins as they call them in the u.k)
in the end despite the barberic beating he took, hhh managed to hit a pedigree on the thumb tacks to retain his title.
i give this match 5 stars.
and finally the royal rumble match itself.
2 records where made in this match:number 1 rikishi eliminated 7 which at the time was the most eliminations ever, and number 2 was kaientai geting eliminated about 6 times!
the final 4 were the roch, big show, x-pac and kane.
as the rock and big show wanted, it came down to the rock and the big show.
after a devastating chokeslam the big show lifted the rock on his shoulders and chuked him over the top but the rock used great leverage to get big show over and eiminate him with big shows feet touching the floor.
it was controversial, the big show claimed the rock feet touched the mat first and that it was him that won the royal rumble and not the rock.
but there was no proper clear footage of the rocks feet touching the mat first.
i give this match 4 stars.
wwf-most extreme ppv....ever
I remember watching this ppv on channel 4 when I was 15 and thinking there is no way they could ever top this ppv for chair shots, table breaks, blood and guts and 80 year old baps (trust me you just don't wanna see this). Here are the matches and my rating.1.taz vs kurt angle; This was without doubt the only good performance of taz before the wwf really messed him up.This was a clinical exhibition of suplexes and finess.About 3-5 minutes long.4/5.2.First ever tag team tables match. The Dudley Boys vs The Hardy Boys;Wow this match had ecw written all over it plus it's a sneak preview on tlc which would take place later that year.I lost count of the chair chots and table breaks in this match with a spectacular ending which will leave your mouth wide open 5/5 .3.Swimsuit Competition; Two words-sick bag.1/5 3.triple threat match for the intercontinental title.Co-champion Chyna vs Co-champion Chris Jericho vs Hardcore Holly;A good soldid performance marred by Chynas below par wrestling.3/5.4.Tag Team title match.New-Age outlaws vs The Acolytes.I remember the bloody, hardcore, stiff chair shot rivalry which led up to this match and as vinnie mac would say quite frankly I expected a lot more that this non-entertaining crap-good ending though.2/5.5.Street Fight for the wwf title.Triple H vs Cactus Jack; And so we come to this.In my opinion the greatest hardcore battle ever between two very hardcore athletes. To the best of my knowledge this was the first time HHH ever bladed himself and what a good job he did.Very rarely have I seen so much blood in a match.Unfortunately I don't have a spare couple of days to tell you exactly what happened in this bloodbath except watch out for triple h getting suplexed on the pallet which ripped his leg wide open.5/5.6.The Royal Rumble.Royal Rumbles suck but my impartial opinion is not bad.2/5.The wwf reached it's zenith for hardcore wrestling back in the years when they gave a dam.Personally everything fell apart when they bought out ecw and wcw.You see no more pressuremeans less entertainment.
Rumble 2000 - One of the Greatest PPV's ever
Royal Rumble 2000 is one of my favourite PPV's of all time. There was not a single bad match on the whole card. The first match was the undefeated kurt angle against an unnamed oppenonent, which turned out to be tazz, making his wwf PPV debut. This is a great match with lots of suplexs from tazz. The match ends with kurt being choked out by the tazzmission, bringing an end to his winning streak. The next match was one of my favourites of all time. Tag team table match, Hardyz vs Dudleyz. This match was supurb, especially the ending. Jeff swanton bomb off the entrance way, putting bub buh ray through two tables!!! The second best match on the card. Next was the swimsuit contest! I thought this was wicked, all of them looked amazing. Terri looked incredibly stunning as shown on the cover as did the kat, wearing nothing but two pieces of bubble wrap!! The ending is spoiled by mae young though, you may want to skip this bit...
After all that excitement comes the triple threat for the IC title, Y2J v Chyna v Hardcore Holly. Ok match, good in bits. The next match is probably the worst on the card, although still reasonably good. A little short - New age outlaws v APA, X-Pac intefers while the ref is down, outlaws retain their belts.
The Street fight was next, one of the greatest matches in memory.Triple H and Catcus Jack facing off, in a BRUTAL contest. Cactus is handcuffed but rock intefers and the fight goes on. The barbed wire is brought out and the dreaded thumbtacks. HHH finally puts catcus away but foley has the last laugh. At the end cactus is left with thumbtacks in his head and HHH with a huge gash in his leg. ABSOLUTLY BRUTAL.
The last match is the rumble itself. It was very good, but you could always tell who the last two would be. However it was a good ending, which set up the storyline for NO WAY OUT.
Overall this event was very very good, i gave it 5/5. With 2 of the best matches of the year and a fantastic bikini match, this is one of the best rumbles in recent years. A must buy for any rumble fan.
