Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
While its songs aren't always as memorable as those of Tony Toni Toné--the million-selling but still under-appreciated band that spawned singer Raphael Saadiq--the debut of R&B trio Lucy Pearl does flash some of the same smart, unpredictable spirit. Along with ex-En Voguer Dawn Robinson and former Tribe Called Quest beatmaster Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Saddiq brings his trademark eye for detail to the funky party anthem "Dance Tonight", the school-days nostalgia of "Remember the Times", and the self-explanatory rager "Can't Stand Your Mother". Guests Q-Tip and Snoop Dogg are slyly affectionate on the love-jones celebration "You". Finally, it's certain that Lucy Pearl will be remembered as 2000's only neo-soul album to include both a hard-rock workout ("Hollywood") and a college marching band. --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews

You must buy this album if u have any self respect5
.... The vocals, instrumentals, production is all so tight that this album just oozes quality. Track 3 "I wanna dance tonite" is probably one of the best songs of the year, but then they cut it up with Snoop and Q-Tip on a more Hip-Hop collaboration. If you are even slightly impartial to any of the artisits former groups (Tribe Called Quest, Toni Toni Toni or En Vogue) then you are gonna be so impressed with this. The only downfall is as Trevor Nelson said, this will probably be a one-off, not the formation of a new Super group. This album is untouchable in this area and I'd advise you all to order it as quick as possible.

Brand New Heavies watch out! Lucy Pearl are in town!4
A friend of a friend let me of about this and unlike me, I took her word and bought when I saw it while browsing through Amazon. This album needs to be part of any nu-soul head's collection. It's mellow, smooth and just delicious. Definitely a CD for serenading.... The tunes are the bomb, very melodicious. Dance Tonight which is out now will definetly get you in the mood before you hit the town, while Track 5, Everyday is just so toe-tapping funky. Good Love, track 7 is very touching and just has to heard. There is hope out there for us single people looking for love. To say the least, i was impressed and have not stopped listening to it since I bought it.

This is a fantastic album. The vocals cannot be touched, production - excellent. It's one of those CDs any self respecting lover of soul music will have in their collection. It's also one of the few CDs I've bought in the last few years which I haven't felt cheated on (ie. only has 2 decent tracks). It has variety with none of the offensive lyrics artists these days feel they have to include to give their offering 'credibility'. Any tracks which arent an instant hit will grow on you quickly. Favourites are: Don't Mess With My Man, Without You, and of course, Dance Tonight. A must have!
