Amazon.co.uk Review
What's more fun than a barrel of opposable-thumbed simians? How about the silly--but challenging--Ape Escape? While not the first game to offer enhanced control with Sony's dual-stick analogue controller, Ape Escape is the first game to require either an analogue or dual shock controller to play. That requirement ensures that players will have full control of their hero, Spike. One stick moves Spike in any direction, while the other swings his monkey-catching devices.
In Ape Escape, a circus monkey named Specter stumbles upon a scientist's prototype intelligence-enhancing helmet, turning him into an evil monkey genius. As Spike, the professor's young friend, you must travel through time to clean up all of the monkeys Specter has sent back in his attempt to repopulate the world.
If that's not enough to make you laugh, then chasing his goofy monkey minions as they scurry from your clutches will certainly tickle your funny bone. You will discover a variety of gadgets to help you in your quest, including monkey radar, a slingshot and a propeller for flying. Spanning 25 huge levels, Ape Escape is approachable for novices and offers added challenges for veteran gamers. One such challenge is to lure a dinosaur near a rocky cliff and then jar the monkey off his back and into your net. Note: no monkeys were harmed in the creation of this game. --Jeff Young

An absolute classic!
Ape Escape is perhaps one of the best platformers ever! Largely underbought by the public because of the analogue-only controls, it's a crime to ignore this game at less than £20. It concerns Spike, who is entrusted with stopping (and capturing) an army of monkies from changing the past. All very well, you say, but these are no ordinary monkies. They are super-intelligent, and each has to be approached and caught in a different manner. Some will run away if they see you, some have machine guns and open fire on you, some trigger traps to get you, whilst others hoof it into their UFOs and circle overhead! What makes this game stand out most is perhaps it's excellent sense of humour. Both kids and adults can enjoy it, although it's colourful and childlike appearance belies some of it's jokes (such as a monkey called 'Spank'). Another brilliant feature of this game is the excellent gadgets you're given. Loads of bits from a radio-controlled car to an extendable boxing glove aid you in catching those monkies. My personal favourite, though, are the unlockable mini-games. Ski-ing, boxing, and a monkey version of Space Invaders all feature. You can spend hours in a boxing tournament, or try to get the fastest time at ski-ing. There are plenty of big, origional levels and mini sections to learn how to perfect each gadget. There's even a encyclopedia of all the monkies you've captured where you can view them and look at their statistics. One fault though - this game is too easy. You could have it completed in a few days realistically, but even when you've done that there's still stuff to go back for, and the high quality of the game more than makes up for it. If you like your games to have their tongue firmly in their cheek, then this game is for you. Infact if you like platform games then chances are you'll love Ape Escape. Buy this game today, you won't regret it.
excellent fun!!!
If you are into things such as Rayman, spyro and games alike you'll enjoy Ape Ascape just as much, if not more. This game is great fun for all ages.Although it is confusing at first,it is brilliant once you get into it propaly. If you are not very good at controling the anolog sticks do not fear, you get use to them extremly quickly. There are around 20 levels altogether and loads of places to explore. You are mad to ignore this game for under £15,so why not treat yourself to one of the best games Known to man.
Ape Escape
This is a great little game, although it can be a bit annoying repeating the same level over and over again. However you do soon get the hang of some great levels and me being an adult i soon got to grips with this game, good fun for the older kids and would recommend it for your collection.
