Amazon.co.uk Review
A cross between to Rayman 2 and Sonic Adventure, Fur Fighters from Acclaim puts you in charge of a group of fur balls avenging the kidnapping of their families by the evil General Viggo who is planning to take over the world. Your band of furry critters consists of Roofus, a great digger allowing you to each new area; Juliette, a seductive feline who can scale walls; Tweek, a new-born dragon who can glide from high places; Chang the firefox, who is a bit on the small side and can therefore fit through ventilation shafts; Rico the penguin who can swim underwater; and Bungalow, a kangaroo who can jump higher and further than the rest of them.
The controls are styled similarly to a first person shooter on the PC, with one control to look and another to move. And they can be tricky to use. While Fur Fighters lacks the spark of gaming greats like Rayman 2, it does have some advantages, like the multiplayer levels, where you and three friends get to battle it out in the good old traditions of Quake, and rather than being stuck to one character, the game lets you change into another via the transportation pods--a great tip for tricking friends as to your identity. --Stuart Miles

Fur Fighters
What a cracking game! Loads of cute furry characters with an attitude that rocks. Give them the biggest gun you can find then go blast some furry butt to help them find their even cuter kidnapped offspring. The graphics are fantastic with lots of neat touches such as foot prints in the snow and fur flying from blasted bodies. These are also backed up with fantastic sound! O.k there is no speech, but each character has it's own weird babble which at first seems very strange but after a while becomes really fun, cool and quite unlike anything else.
The control method will take a bit of getting used to but once mastered is very intuitive and you will find yourself opting for similar styles in a whole host of games - outtrigger, quake 3 etc. To help you there is also a very useful training ground section too- in which you get to check out all the moves and limitations of each character used in the game and also some of the puzzle aspects that crop up frequently.
So if your looking for something a bit different from the norm and are prepared to spend some time getting to know how to get the best from a game then snap up this little gem, it's destined to become a cult classic!
Next please!
Fur Fighters - in my words, a disappointment. I bought the game hoping it would be a contender to be put head to head with the likes of Sonic Adventure and Rayman 2, other great platformers. Instead, we get a strange game, that doesn't really know who it's aimed at. The front of the case shows two furry little critters with guns. It's a game that tries to aim at adults and kids. When I first put the disk in, even the menu screens stink of the N64's Banjo-Kazooie. The textures are boring throughtout and the music is so bad and repetitive I wake up in the middle of the night with it still echoing in my brain - if the music was any good I wouldn't mind though. The sound effects get more and more annoying with every shot you take and the weapons are unbalanced -- the first gun fires very quickly and does reasonable damage, whereas the second one is as slow as molasses and clunks pitifully. I never tried the 4 play, that might be good (Also the humour is a little too British for my liking.) Still if you have younger kids or like this sort of thing...
Furtastic!
After becoming increasingly bored and frustrated with the 3d platform genre, I was pleasantly surprised to say the least with this game. What makes it so good is the variety of characters, with their quirky personalities. It remains varied, fun, playable, and even has humour which isn't a factor always associated with games. Absolutely lovable!
