Star Wars Starfighter brings air and space combat to the PlayStation 2, combining the action of Rogue Squadron with the plots of the X-Wing series for an engrossing gaming experience. The story, inspired by the The Phantom Menace, will have you trying to save Naboo from invasion by the treacherous Trade Federation. There are three pilots to choose from, each with a different ship. Rhys is a cocky Naboo pilot-in-training. His Naboo N-1 starfighter is quick, agile, and adept at dogfighting, and armed with proton torpedoes, laser cannons, and deflector shields. Vana, a Naboo expatriate, roams the galaxy contracting her services as a gun for hire. Her ship, the Guardian, is ultra-fast and equipped with stealth capabilities, sensors, tracking devices and a variety of weaponry. Nym is an alien pirate who lives a Robin Hood existence in the shadows of the Naboo system. He pilots the Havoc, a starship outfitted with powerful bombs, lasers, rotating turret gun, and heavy shielding.

Amazon.co.uk Review
New system, new Star Wars adventure. LucasArts' no-brainer approach to the PlayStation 2 looks great and plays even better. Star Wars Starfighter is modelled after LucasArts' long-running flight-sim series. Thankfully, the game is fully loaded with plenty of vehicles from the Star Wars universe--which should put early fears to rest that the game would only include a few Episode 1 vehicles. On the PlayStation 2, this game looks incredible. The terrain detail is breathtaking, with long distances stretching out between you and the horizon. The environments are quite varied from the looks of things, with fighting taking place both within a planet's atmosphere and in the lonely recesses of space. Since it's a console game, the controls are very simplistic, yet sport some interesting features. Players can freely switch between highlighted targets and can use a zoom lens to easily take out all droid invaders.
The cinematic sequences stitched throughout the game are brought to life with sharp, real-time cut-scenes, and all of Starfighter's effects are light-years ahead of anything you've previously seen on a console.
This PlayStation 2 Star Warsflight game demonstrates the best use yet of the high-profile license. Putting players in the pilot seat of a TIE fighter or an X-Wing is sure to answer the fantasies of millions-upon-millions of dedicated fans. --Todd Mowatt
Manufacturer's Description
Star Wars debuts on PS2 with Starfighter, an epic of a game which more than lives up to what you might expect from a game bearing the LucasArts name. And, needless to say, this game features some of the very best special effects you could hope to experience on the system. You play one of three space pilots who must protect Naboo from the malign Trade Federation. You'll embark on a range of different missions that see you roaming a spacescape that is vast and varied, but where danger lurks at every turn. The game features more than 50 enemy vehicles and baddies, so you'll need a keen eye for determining where is safe and where isn't. And once you've located the enemy (or they've located you!), get ready for some of the most frantic shooting action you've ever experienced in a Star Wars game - this time it's serious...

Star wars starfighter
Star wars has always been your dads favourite movie series, darth vader here, light sabers there, you know the story, but now playstation 2 have released a game which will appeal to the younger generation.
This game has everything you could want from a space shoot-em-up,gorgeous graphics, brilliant gameplay and a brilliant plot to boot.
The enemies in this game have great AI,you fire your laser at the enemy target and they dodge and swoop in for the cheap shot. Before you can get into the actual game itselt yoyu must learn the ropes and the moves in a training field where you will eventually have to battle with the trainer herself. I wuold recommend this game to anyone loves shoot-em-ups and because of its title it will obviosly appeal to your star wars loving dad, OVERALL RATING=4 STARS
Best Shoot-em-up ever
Amazing! The game sticks closely to the film, from the missions, to the ships and planets. The controls suit the gameplay, the first analogue controls the ship, and the second controls the wings (you can spin or turn to avoid rocks jutting out of cliffs.) . I don't own this myself, but my friend does and I've borrowed it 9 times in under 2 months! Only a tenner more to save, and this game will be mine! I recommend this game even if you don't like stars wars, because it'll be a classic in 5 years, guaranteed!
Buy it or I will shoot you
This game has an excellent storyline. It's graphics are awesome, you pilot different starfighters and play as different characters, all ships have missiles. There are hours of play and lots of action. You fly around many planets including Naboo. You fight back the trade federation, you also get to fly into their giant battleship.
